Sure It Is

There is much to be entirely confused by on this debut. But do not be fooled by its manic scales and seeming irreverence. Whether playing John Lennon's doppleganger or mouthing a simultaneous Jim Croce/Kix Brooks/Loudon Wainwright III con, Dillard is dead serious and -even at a clearly young age aesthetically- an ambitious romantic. Play it again and find yourself oddly enchanted not only by the vocal range and phrasing, but also a richly accessible texture. Minus the fluff (Worst Intermission Ever IS), this is a significant launch. Watch this guy. I am not kidding.

A fan

I really like the instrumental guitar work on, "The Band Broke Up (Part 2)," and the vocals. It is a poetic ballad. The singer's voice, on the "Jr. High Emo" song, has a folk tale flavor. I am reminded of sitting at the knee, of a great storyteller. The "31" song could become a classic, and it makes me want to hum along, with the song!

Been waiting a long time for this one...

I'm a big fan of Without a Face and Henry Dillard in general. I've been waiting for "31" to come out to buy it for a while and it's completely worth the wait. So unique and refreshing, the lyrics and voice both. I hope the next album is just as awful, Henry.
