An Old 97's fan favorite but largely overlooked outside that circle, Wreck Your Life put Bloodshot Records on the map in 1996 and remains an essential document of that era's alt-country resurgence. The Dallas dynamos are firing on all cylinders throughout, Rhett Miller's crackerjack turns of phrase ("She started out on Percodan and ended up with me," "You made a big impression for a girl of your size") spiked with sharp, twangy lead guitar and the old Johnny Cash chucka-boom train beat revved so hard it nearly runs off the rails. There are precedents for this sort of thing, of course - including country outlaws and the Bakersfield buckaroos - but punkified country doesn't come hotter, or more fun, than "Victoria," "Doreen," and "Big Brown Eyes."

I can't get enough of Big Brown Eyes.

To be honext, I first heard the song at the end of the final episode of Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. Since then however, this album and specifically that song (Big Brown Eyes) remains among some of my favorite music. Big Brown Eyes just makes me feel so nostalgic and sad. But the whole album is strong. It's the only country I can stand.

Best Old '97 Album, Bar None

This is best one folks, back when there was a little more alt and country in their alt-country sound, back before Rhett got married, had kids and started livin' the good life, back when his lyrics were filled with real passion and angst and humor. Check out "Victoria," "The Other Shoe," "Dressing Room Walls," "Over the Cliff," and "Goin' Goin' Gone." p.s. Too Far to Care is their 2nd best album

A must have...

This is a great album, and an essential for any Old 97's fan. Download, listen, and go see them live. They are fantastic.
