An "X"cellent score

I wish HGW could have scored the previous three movies. This score has a very epic feel and I think Mr. Williams thought it through very carefully. It is certainly not a zimmer-like score where he doesnt seem to care whats happening on screen just as long as the music is loud. This score is, at times, is very similar to Prince Narnia. If you liked that score, then buying this should be a no-brainer. In usual HGW fashion this score has a unique blend of orchestra and electronic elements that only add to the scores overall effect. If you decide to not buy the whole album, the tracks I recommend are: Logan through time (deserves award) Logan meets gambit( nice action towards the end) Deadpool ( A very modern/electronic action piece). I congratulate HGW on creating an intelligent and modern superhero score.

"The Best There Is at What He Does"

It's only been out a week (as of this writing), and the movie has received mixed reviews (even from X-Comic fans). I was surprised to find out the soundtrack hit the streets less than a week after the movie premiered - and more surprised to find out no one in the NYC-Metro area had it (except for iTunes, of course). Enough "backstory" - on to the substance of the music: Someone once said a great musical score can elevate a movie to "the next level." This movie's fans and critics both describe the film as "testosterone-filled." Part of what DRIVES that through the movie is the music. It reaches it's successful goal elegantly, and "dovetails" perfectly with the on-screen action, supporting it without overpowering it, or drawing disproportionate attention to itself. There is a solid foundation of pulsing rhythms that are tribal in nature. However, much like the character of Logan itself, the music combines the base primal urges with aspirational tones (voiced by an elegantly integrated choir - who truly use their voices as instruments). A mix of classical instruments and contemporary electronics help to give certain tracks a nice sharp "edge." There are some characters who have their own unique "themes" (Kayla Silverfox, Wade/Deadpool, Victor "Sabretooth" Creed, etc...) yet even these often have a "hook" of familiar notes/chords which remind us that these characters all reflect different facets of Logan himself. This often subtle "echo" of those notes/chords also helps the entire soundtrack hold together as one cohesive entity. All-in-all - a great score that reflects the pure masculine energy of the character - both his "light" and "dark" sides as he grows against challenges - internal and external. RJD PS - In contrast to an earlier poster, as a "native NYC-er" I found nothing offensive about the title of one of these tracks. There are plenty of towers all over the world. Some will collapse and some won't. Like Logan, we heal, get up and keep moving into our future. "'Nuff Said."

Great themes from another great composer!

Michael Kamen, John Ottman, and John Powell created iconic and wonderful themes for the three X-Men films. Harry Gregson-Williams has composed even better music to fit in with the dark story of Wolverine's past such as "Logan Through Time" or "...I'll Find My Own Way". This album is definitely worth the price! If you enjoyed the previous score of the first three movies, you'll love this as well!
