a good collection of George's pre-Dokken recordings

This actually features two Dokken members -- George Lynch on guitars and Mick Brown on drums. This was the band they played in before they joined Dokken. The line-up is rounded out with Monte Zufelt on bass, Greg Sanford on vocals for tracks 1 through 4, and Lisa Baker on vocals for tracks 5 through 8. The quality of the recording is quite good, and I would highly recommend it for even the most casual of George Lynch fans. It really showcases his guitar skills during his formative years.

This is so cool

I heard a bootleg/demo of another band years and years ago but at the end of one side of the tape was a partial recording of this song "Black Star". I didn't even know who the band was, but I remembered liking the song and wanting to hear more. How I came to find this now is pretty amazing, and I'm glad I did. I never, ever would have known it was George Lynch on guitar, but I like it. Good vocals too. I like this guy's voice better than Dokken's. The last four songs feature a female vocalist who sounds a bit like the girl who used to sing for Hellion (anybody remember them?) and those last four in particular have a more power-pop influence, but I still like this stuff a lot. Throughout all of the songs is an early Van Halen influence but not in a bad way. Check out "I've Been Waiting" and "It's Alive" if you think I'm nuts. Thanks iTunes for making this available!

Indeed, Van Halen were really the only massive success story to emerge from the So-Cal '70s hard rock scene, (with also-rans Quiet Riot and, to a much lesser degree, London, finally breaking through in the next decade), leaving numerous colleagues and...
