Customer Reviews
Awesome, needs entranced attention
I wanted to buy the available songs on this record from iTunes, but due to store problems (Apple doesn't want my money today, apparently) I ended up hoofing it to a record store that unbelievably had this (1 copy) in stock. It was totally worth it - what an unbelievable slice of mind musically, and to have it on CD is totally kind of weird. It looks weird on the front, and in the middle; on the back is a long but insightful rant from Thurston. The CD obviously has more material than the admitted partial album here on itunes - principally the 11 minute song "Weird Wisteria Tangles Carrion Christ But Intends No Harm". Go get it, far out kids.
pleasantly self-explanatory.
if you want to know what Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice sound like, just sit back long enough pondering their name and it might begin to come to you. atmospheric echoing spaces, sounds rippling out and out into the ether; shambling spoken passages and ethereal vocal phrasing. the random noises one might find from, say, CocoRosie (though not nearly as repetetive), and the moodiness of Animal Collective's quieter moments, like the middle of "Here Comes the Indian". tribal jazz? doom psychedelia? both plausible genre descriptions. a very pleasant listen, if somewhat challenging.
