Tiersen's next step
It isn't often that a composer writes a score that identifies with a film so perfectly. The balance Yann Tiersen achieved in complimenting Amelie's romanticism, tempo and overall feeling, whilst not overshadowing and overpowering the film itself was exceptional. Tiersen's follow up, C'Était Ici, gave glimpses of what he could achieve with vocals attached to his heart-binding orchestral pieces, however this album with Shannon Wright takes the leap intrigued Tiersen followers will revel in. Wright's vocals are akin to Lisa Hannigan, vocalist of Damien Rice and provide a soulful dark edge to Tiersen's latest offering. The range of the ten tracks is more diverse than his previous albums, but the music still focuses on the same strong piano rifts, violin interjections and the occasional accordion.
Just A Good Album.
There's not much to say about this album except it's meloncholy, a little dark...and perfect. I love this album and 'Callous Sun' & 'Pale White' especially.
My prayers are answered...
This is a gorgeous album. Both Teirsen and Wright at their absolute best. I especially adore "No Mercy for She", Pale White", "Dragon Fly", and "Ode to a Friend". I am dying to download the entire album immediately but I do not have enough money left on my gift card! Ah, life is cruel, is it not? Anyway, if you like either Yann Teirsen or Shannon Wright, buy this album. This is truly a gem, and one of the few full albums in existence you can listen to all the way through.
