Year of the Tiger is THE Korean hip hop album
DJ Shine and Tiger Jk are, arguably, the fathers of Korean hip hop. With their control over both the Korean and English language, they manage to craft rhymes that make you bob your head and truly listen to the music. The beats and the melodies are equally hypnotizing. The first album is a good place for any fan of hip hop to start, especially if they are Korean or just enjoy international music. Classics include 난 널원해 and Do you know hip hop? The Stairway from Heaven has also been a personal favorite ever since I first played the album. They started with relatively little popularity in Korea but have sparked the movement towards hip hop. As such, they, or Tiger JK would be more appropriate now, are now the leaders of the group called The Movement, which includes groups like Epik High, Dynamic Duo, The Quiett, and LeeSsang. Although these groups manage to produce generally good music, the Korean music industry as a whole has recently taken a turn for the worse (of course in my honest opinion). Even though my favorites of DT come from the duo of Shine and Jk, JK's recent endeavors into the solo career are also quite enjoyable so be sure to check them out.
