Don't Sleep On Side One

Despite Yes' reputation for wandering away from the song and into the realm of endless noodling in the latter albums, the first 3 tunes of this recording (side one of the old vinyl disks) shows a crispness, a cadence, and a rhythm that is refreshing and represents some of the best live prog available. This is one of their better live ventures. Classic "In the Round" Yes. Squire's bass weighs a ton, White on the kit is almost stunning. Anderson can actually hit the highs, and really belts them. And what can you say about Howe? At his jazzy best.

Enlightening!

This album is deep in it's different musical intrumentation & expression. Each instrument a lead singer in it's own concert...accompanied by the haunting tenor vocals of Jon Anderson all pieces magically and with genious result jive and melt together The Gates of Delirium...music which reveals the universe to mankind listening ears and eager souls....just the greatest music ever!!!

Good collection, but needs "awaken" and more of "tales"

"Awaken" was probably yes's best work after close to the edge (covered on "yessongs") and maybe their best ever. also, tales from topographic oceans had some great songs other than ritual, like the revealing science of god and the remembering. plus, this album just doesn't have the great amounts of songs from each album (tales-relayer-GFTO-tormato) as yessongs did (the album-fragile-CTTE). If this had more of the stuff i just mentioned, it and yessongs would be the perfect live collection of yes music 1971-1978. ---------- doctordog

Far and away the longest lasting and the most successful of the '70s progressive rock groups, Yes proved to be one of the lingering success stories from that musical genre. The band, founded in 1968, overcame a generational shift in its audience and the departure of its most visible members at key points in its history to reach the end of the century as the definitive progressive rock band. Where rivals such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer withered away commercially after the mid-'70s, and Genesis...
