Album Review
Time after time, inspirational stalwarts Selah refuse to fix what ain't broken. You could transfer the trio's entire discography to an iPod, put the device on shuffle mode, and not know where each song belongs in their trajectory. And Selah would rather have it that way: You Deliver Me, their sixth full-length in a decade, bears all the hallmarks of past glories: serene piano-based hymns, inspirational ballads, the occasional barnstorming praise song, and, of course, the requisite African-tinged number. Play for play, this is the Selah that has sold more than two million albums, won award after award, and declined to pander to CCM's worldly fluctuations. There's one exception, and it's bound to leave fans nonplussed: inexplicably, Selah decided to take Brooke Fraser's "Hosanna," a popular Hillsong anthem, and do absolutely nothing with it: it's a near replica of the original, an alterna-rock piece that, save for some vocal interplay between Todd Smith and Amy Perry, sounds completely out of character for the threesome. Barring that, Selah is perhaps the only unoriginal true original left in Christian music, a group that sticks to its classic guns while everyone else chases the latest flavor of the moment.

Worshipful and full of emotion
I made the mistake (not really) of listening to this CD for the first time in the car on the way to work and by the time I got to song #3, "You Deliver Me", I was sobbing in the car (I'm sure the people next to me wondered what was going on). That wasn't because the music is sad though--instead, it was because the music made me completely aware of the free gift of salvation that I have been given. Every song after that one was the same way--if you want to worship, this is the CD to buy. You'll raise your hands, smile/laugh, find yourself dancing, and possibly shed a tear as you worship the one and only Lord of lords and King of Kings. Oh, and I love the "spice" they add to "Glory to His Name". What an experience!
Incredible!!!
Love your deep soulful twist on the old classic hymns. Amy Perry is a great fit and is truly a great talent who loves the Lord. Allans piano work is unmatched he doesn't just play notes he lives them. Todd, well your voice is full of life and joy, wow. Hope to see you again in concert if you are ever back in Charleston SC. Ya'll are the best!
Great music and POWERFUL lyrics
I could listen to the song "Unredeemed" several times and still be moved. The music on this album is fun, inspiring and encouraging. It's definitely different than the majority of what's being played on the radio. The musicianship is pure and amazing. Great stuff!
PS I think both Nichol and Amy do a great job as far as the vocals. But I don't think it really matters who is singing. What matters more is the message in the song and that the person is worshiping the Lord through music and singing. Personally, I think it's kind of a small perspective to give an album a few stars just because the vocalists are different. Not judging you or anything. Just giving you something to think about. Remember that the heart of worship is that it's all about the Lord. It's not about the singer, but about the Lord. Anyway, just thought I'd share what I was taught by someone else about comparing and contrasting when it comes to singing music that's ultimately for the Lord.
But yeah, this album is really great. I definitely recommend it.
