iTunes Review

Jim Croce had previously released an album with his wife Ingrid before making his commercial breakthrough with his ABC Records’ debut, 1972’s You Don’t Mess Around With Jim. The album’s title track — about pool shark “Big” Jim Walker and not Jim Croce the songwriter — and "Operator (That’s Not The Way It Feels)" established Croce as both a great tale spinner and a compassionate and touching singer-songwriter. But his true emotive connection came with “Time In A Bottle,” a song that would shoot to #1 on the pop charts after Croce’s tragic death in a plane crash in 1973. His short-lived career already had plenty of highlights, many of which are featured here. The hits are readily familiar but the same loner identity and straightforward honesty can be heard in his ballad of alienation “New York’s Not My Home,” his call for hope “Tomorrow’s Gonna Be a Brighter Day,” and his knack for capturing the sorrow and nostalgia for an irretrievable past in “Photographs and Memories.”

Customer Reviews

Ahead of his time.

While in high school back in '72 I used to ride my bike by the rented farm house(near Coatesville Pa) were Jim and family resided. I once waved at Jim and he waved back......I even turned downed an offer from a friend to go listen to him at his home studio. I remember his unusual Pink mailbox and went off to college thinking someday I'll stop back and say Hi! Sadly, the next year Jim died. His music is still better than much of the stuff being sold. He probably would have been closer to today's country than pop. We miss you Jim.

Original Time in a Bottle, Finally!

I've been waiting for Itunes to release the Original Jim Croce version of Time in a Bottle for quite some time now. At last, that day has finally come. You will not be disappointed with the tone, and beautiful voice that has become legendary. Enjoy!

Jim Croce was a music GOD.

Jim Croce I feel was very underrated. I was not even born in Mr Croce's time, but buy just listening to his music, I don't know what to say... it moves you(well me) especially Time in a Bottle, Lovers Cross, These Dreams. I wish he were here today to still be giving us the gift of music.

In the music industry, arguably the worst tragedy that can befall an artist is to die in their prime, when he or she is just beginning to break through to the mainstream and reach people on a national level. One such artist was Jim Croce, a songwriter with a knack for both upbeat, catchy singles and empathetic, melancholy ballads. Though Croce only recorded a few studio albums before an untimely plane crash, he continues to be remembered posthumously. Croce appealed to fans as a common man, and it...
