Album Review
Ryan Cabrera became a star in 2004, as his debut album, Take It All Away, peaked in the Billboard Top Ten with its two singles, "On the Way Down" and "True," climbing into the Top 20 and Top Ten, respectively. Part of it was due to his slick, youthful spin on earnest post-alternative mainstream pop/rock like Third Eye Blind, Matchbox Twenty, and the Goo Goo Dolls (whose Johnny Rzeznik co-produced Take It All Away), but his popularity was due equally to his much-publicized doomed romance with pop tart Ashlee Simpson. This got his name in the tabloids and his face on MTV's The Ashlee Simpson Show, which went a long way to giving him a personality. Because of this, some fans may feel the desire to interpret the songs on his quickly released second album, You Stand Watching (it hit the streets 13 months after his debut), as a chronicle of his relationship with Ashlee and its aftermath, but the songs not only don't hold up under such scrutiny, they're not designed to invite such an analysis. They're songs about love lost and won, targeted at teens but produced to appeal to their moms. This was true on Take It All Away but You Stand Watching goes even further into the adult-pop breach, and Cabrera co-wrote all 11 songs and takes sole credit for the production, which downplays whatever harder edges Rzeznik brought to the debut. Thanks to his fondness for post-grunge guitar pop, he winds up with a record that has a bit more muscle than Clay Aiken, but certainly manages to straddle the adult contemporary and teen pop worlds in a similar fashion. If anything, Cabrera leans a little closer to the adult side of the fence, and the polished, anthemic sound of You Stand Watching was designed to have an all-ages appeal. Since Cabrera does write and deliver his own material, there is an impression that he's sincere about his tales of heartbreak. You Stand Watching is far from being either bad or offensive — it's too well-produced and professional for that — and despite the increased sense of safety and slickness, it will likely please fans of his first album since it pretty much delivers more of the same.

Sophomore Album Rocks!
Ryan Cabrera is a very talented artist/musician and this album showcases his talents. From catchy up-beats with "Shine On" to the ballad "It's You", Ryan's sound is very real throughout the entire album. His album was not touched up, over-done, or synthesized; each song sounds as if you were at one of his concerts. This album is one of my favorites that I own and I truly do not regret buying this album like I do with so many others! I highly recommend this CD to any that wants to go on a lyrical journey. Each song has a different emotion and there is sure to be a song for everyone. There is no sophomore slump in sight for Ryan Cabrera!!
Amazing!
This album is absolutely amazing! It has so many good songs, that it's hard to pick a favorite. Although all of the songs are amazing, the best are 'photo' and 'fall baby fall'. This album is so good because it captures all of the emotions that we all go through at some point or another in life. 'Shine On' is amazing because a guy actually wants him ex-girlfriend to be happy, which is amazing, as well as rare. The melodies on the whole album are catchy and sound really good. If there is a weak point on this album, I think that it's the bonus song, 'sentimental', as it's rather boring compared to the rest. His first album (take it all away) was great, but this album is better, and you can tell that he's grown a lot as an artist. I was surprised when I found out he did the album in 3 weeks, and produced it himself, talk about talent!
Well Done Ryan!!!
Ryan Cabrera's sophmore album is amazingly done! From the first song of this album, it was perfect. The lyrics are beautiful and his vocals were amazing. Anyone who denies this is just kidding themselves. There is nothing bad to say about this album. It was well worth buying, as I listen to it all the time. I have a detailed critique below: From The Start: A great song to start off the album. It was really good. The lyrics were really well done, and made me want to keep listening. It also posed the critcal question: Is love enough? Reccomended to fans of Exit to Exit and 40 Kinds of Sadness. Hit Me With Your Light: I was shocked when I fell in love with this track. The lyrics are very powerful, and the chorus is moving. A great song to purchase on its own. Reccomended to fans of Echo Park, and Blind Sight. Shine On: There are so many things to say about Ryan first single from this album. It was perfect that this was the single released from this album, because it was so Ryan that everyone wanted to purchase this. A great song. Reccomended to fans of On the Way Down, and Let's Take Our Time. Find Your Way: One of the two songs on this album that I could not stand. Until It reaches the chorus. It was too slow until that point. After that I adjusted to the slow rhythm of the track. I wouldn't reccomend puchasing it alone. Reccomended to fans of She's and Take It All Away. Photo: One of my favorites from You Stand Watching. I loved this song from every aspect: vocals, guitar, and lyrics. A great buy. Reccomended to fans of Blind sight, and Exit to Exit. Our Story: I hated this song, so I'm not even going to describe how much I couldn't stand it. It just wasn't for me. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it. Fall Baby Fall: A great track to listen to. It was beautifully done. One of the best songs on the album. Reccomended to fans of She's, and Take It All Away. Last Night: Easily the best song on You Stand Watching. Every aspect of this song was amazing. I reccomend this song to anyone who has every liked any song by Ryan Cabrera. Reccomended in particular to fans of Shame On Me, On the Way Down, and Let's Take Our Time. Walking on Water: A great songs. Reccomended to fans of Take It All Away (the song) . Worth the money. With you Gone: Second only to Last Night, this song was perfectly done. The lyrics are powerful, and I loved every second of this four-minute song. Reccomended for fans of Shine On or On the Way Down. It's You: Beautiful, heartbreaking song. Reccomended to fans of She's and Take It All Away. Sentimental: An amazing song that is well worth purchasing the entire album for. Reccomended to fans of Let's take Our time and On the Way Down. Overall Album Review: Amazingly done, Ryan! The majority of these songs were perfect. Reccomended to fans of Take It All Away (the album). Well worth the purchase price.
