An Evocative Take on Traditional Songs
These songs lie close to Red Heart the Ticker singer Robin MacArthur's heart. They were among those collected and performed by her grandmother, Margaret MacArthur. But just as Margaret MacArthur's versions were updates of these old tunes, Red Heart The Ticker has reshaped them. The intimacy of Robin's voice draws the listener into the world these songs inhabit, and the music, meditative and simple, is a perfect compliment. "Locks and Bolts", "Mothers in the Graveyard" and "Lakes of Champlain" (among others) seem quaint and outdated on paper, but in these recordings they feel absolutely contemporary.
