Real-Time Reading
Just When You Think You Understand The Game... It Changes!
This is an entirely new way of looking at/reading a book. When Dom Sagolla wrote the book, '140 Characters: A Style Guide for the Short Form,' he must have been thinking of ways to integrate it into Twittter (which he Co-Created), but it looks like he Re-Invented the Book instead. By turning the text in his book into HyperText and marrying it with the Real-Time Web, Dom has made it possible to Update his book on the fly and thus keeping it current and interesting, which is extremely helpful when writing about something that is constantly changing like things on the Web. Imagine writing a book on Twitter and not including Ashton Kutcher and CNN. You can always write a New Edition with New Updates, but by the time you send it to the printer it's already out of date. But wait! What if you could update your book and everyone who purchased it could have the Update as soon as you uploaded it. What a godsend. This Hypertext version of Dom Sagolla's book is going to send shockwaves throughout the publishing industry as people start demanding Real-Time Reading as opposed to Offline and Out-of-Date Reading. So, if you are interested in things like 'How Twitter Was Born' and how best to write for and utilize it, then this book is for you.
Great companion to the book
Really enjoyed the book, and now with the app its really cool to get the interactive piece. Seeing examples of what @dom refers to in the book in real-time is great.
The publishing revolution is here
Game changing doesn't cover enough of the ground that has been broken. We the People are now We the Writers. The short form will give voice to all who care, and to all who wish to be heard. Grasp and embrace. Publishing will never be the same. Get the book and the app, and expand the present and help shape the future.
