To me, it reminds me of MS Paint.
Needs to allow PNG export to Photos. There is a bug where I opened a new canvas in landscape and set the width x height to 2048 x 1536 but I got a 1536 x 2048 instead. The canvas is portrait instead.

I am very happy with this app. I was using Sketchbook Pro (am still using it, and others) before I bought Artstudio. Honestly, I thought it was going to be another cheap imitation and I based that assumption mainly on the app graphic, which is basic. You can't judge a book by its cover though. I was even going to throw ArtstudioLite after making a half baked doodle with the pencil tool. There was something about the doodle that interested me but wasn't quite right so I thought I would give it a tweak and move it over to some other sketch pad. That was it. In the process of looking for the tool I needed, which was quick enough, I realized this was a deep program, I was hooked. I'm working on a first generation iPadand don't have any processing problems. Some things take a couple seconds to render or load you can't realy fault the app for that. I was just working on a portrait and didn't like the shading under the lip, too dark. So I just thought IDE undo until the undo ran out and patch it up from there. 40 undo taps later and there I am, back at the beginning, cool! Layers, layer masks, blending, copy, scale, rotate,. it's all there, good work! It would be nice though if you could find a way to release the smell of oil paints when I open the app though. When you work that out I will give it the sixth star. Oh, and HEY APPLE, you think you could find a way to make the review window scroll above the keyboard? It's hard enough for me type as it is without out having to collapse the keyboard every time I make a mistake just to see I made another because I cant place the cursor or see the results of my corrections!!
Full Featured
There are a number of good art apps available but ArtStudio seems to have the most of the features I expect to find: layers, many brushes & control over those brushes, a variety of good tools, blending modes, easy access to everything, and a good work flow that doesn't have to involve multi-finger taps or sliding my fingers across my working area to bring up a menu. On top of the ease of use and huge feature set, ArtStudio is cheaper than most of its competition. There are a few apps that have a bit more polish, but they've all left me wanting more in one or more of the other areas that ArtStudio shines and ArtStudio is hardly unpolished. Excellent!
