The rankings are computed based on social data from Gowalla, Foursquare, and Yelp.

THE Austin BBQ App
Everything you need to get slathered in BBQ sauce while visiting Austin. A very well done app with an extensive list of tasty BBQ joints spread throughout the city complete with what each place is best known for. Or if you just need a fix and you need it now this app will let you know which place is closest, if they're open, and put 'em on speed dial so that you can warn the pit master that you're headed their way. Great app, get it!

The app itself is pretty handy, especially for folks who need more information on local Texas BBQ. Even though I applaud the use of the metric system for mapping out distances, having the distance available ONLY in kilometers might not make a whole lot of sense here in Texas where distance is based on miles. One thing I do question is the rating system as its unclear how the data is gathered but I guessing its more subjective than based on specific hard-core BBQ criteria and by BBQ addicts who have actually been to an actual place. The app does have phone numbers, maps, and weblinks to the various places and that's always handy when needing a BBQ fix. Definitely a good app for 'the uninitiated'.
