Clear speech
This app is a great tool not just for esl but for also for individuals with communication, speech, and language impairments. Many individuals with autism, auditory processing, apraxia, and related speech disorders benefit from listening and identifying sounds and syllables in our everyday speech. As a special education teacher I used this app with my students and found it to be a great teaching tool for auditory processing and improving articulation. Especially the basketball game. My students were able to repeat and produce everyday words with improved clarity. Best of all, the games are motivating and age appropriate across the span.
Games with a scientific foundation
For people who are new to English, part of learning to pronounce and understand well is learning to hear words correctly. This includes things like recognizing final sounds, hearing the number of syllables in a word, and hearing which syllable is stressed. The Clear Speech apps are a set of imaginative games that are based on solid linguistic science. They won't "cure" your pronunciation problems, but they can help you start to improve on your own. The practice they provide is worth the price.
