Description
Clipboard Cleaner is a menubar app which removes the formatting from text on the clipboard so it can be pasted anywhere as plain text. Can be used manually by selecting the clean option in the menu, or automatically which cleans the formatting from the clipboard as you work.
Ever copy something from a website or PDF to paste into an Email and find all the links and other nonsense came along with? Find yourself pasting text into another text box just to get rid of the formatting? Clean it all away in one fell swoop and leave yourself with nice, plain and simple text. Handles colors, bold/italics, links, images, and everything else that isn't just plain text.

VERY useful, almost perfect except...
This is very handy since not every program has the Edit / Paste to Match Style option.
It'd be nice if you could assign you're own hotkey, though not a big deal. It uses Shift-Cmd-X.
One issue with Automatic mode and Graphics:
If you enable "Automatically Clear Format on Copy" it will keep graphics applications from being able to paste.
For example, if you Ctrl-Shift-Cmd-4 to grab part of your screen, you can't paste it. Or if you're using the Preview app to edit, and you highlight an area and copy, then try to do Paste, you'll get a beep, and you'll notice that paste is always grayed out on the menu. Or if you copy and try to use the File / New Image from Clipboard, you'll see that's grayed out too.
Ideally this app would limit itself to textual based content for clearning formats, or maybe exclude certain graphics formats. Or at least let me exclude some applications from Automatic mode; it would have to be the source application I guess, since it clears formatting at Copy time (vs. when you Paste)
But other than Automatic mode I LOVE this app.
Simpler and easier to use than Plain Clip
I have used Plain Clip for years to strip formatting from text before I paste it. But Plain Clip requires that I hit a hot key (which has never worked for me) or click the icon in the dock. Now I just leave Clipboard Cleaner on all the time and when I want to retain formating, I just select and drag the text to its destination.
GREAT app but messes up FILE (finder) copy and paste commands
I love this app. I've waited for this for a long time, being a long time user of purepaste on windows machines, I finally have an app to strip out formatting when cutting and pasting text between applications. There is one huge problem, though. When using in automatic mode, it messes up the basic file copy, cut, paste commands in Lion. The latter just don't work while the Clipboard Cleaner is working on automatic. That's really too bad as what one gets in a great basic function here you lose in another basic, important work function. And Macs are already so poor at file management compared to Windows (sorry for the heresy), to have it further impaired is a big deal.
