Description
The City of Columbus has released a free Mobile Application for iPhones allowing area residents enhanced access city and community resources. The App puts City Services at the fingertips of residents and visitors, bringing to life many of Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s mayoral initiatives to improve the quality of life of the Columbus residents. The App uses many integrated technologies, such as GPS for location services, RSS for City News Feeds, and has an entire Social Media Center providing access to Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube information.
The App encompasses four mayoral initiatives to help city residents: My Neighborhood, Get Active, Get Green, and 311. The My Neighborhood campaign allows residents to easily select and map government buildings, local entertainment and retail venues, as well as other useful Columbus sites. The Get Active initiative enables residents to access an events calendar, park and trail guides, and tips from prominent community members on healthy eating and exercise. The Get Green initiative encourages sustainable behavior with environmental facts and pointers. The app also includes a 311service center submission section where residents can submit and check on the status of service requests from their mobile devices.
This iPhone App is one piece of the foundation of a strategic mobile program for the City of Columbus. With smart phone use already at 50% for much of the US, the Columbus App was the obvious next-step in improving city-to-resident communication. The City of Columbus hopes to capitalize on this phenomenon and make public services more accessible and engaging to residents.

Nice job
I was skeptical, but like to use this app to check garbage days and get 311 help.
UNFORTUNATELY, garbage days do not update consistently. Garbage day moved due to Presidents' Day, but a week later the day listed hadn't updated. Now have to drag my can back up the driveway until Monday.
Getting there...
-Garbage Day doesn't update. The only way to "refresh" the date is to edit your home address.
-311 service request still requires a city worker to "see" a problem themselves before they will take action. A clear photo that is time stamped and geo-tagged by the app isn't enough evidence.
Fix these two issues and I'd be at 5 stars.
Confusing interface and cheap graphics
Not very user friendly
