Description

Cruz is a new web browser for Mac OS X that offers a few special features you won't find anywhere else.

• Cruz's unique "Browsa" plugin allows you to view multiple web pages simultaneously in sidebar split views. To activate a Browsa sidebar, click one of the "compass" toolbar buttons on the right side of the browser window. Now you can browse to any web page in the sidebar Browsa.

To configure a Browsa's settings (like Home page, navbar visibility, User-Agent String and more), go to "Cruz → Preferences → Browsa".

• Cruz offers best-in-class AppleScript-ability. Cruz provides many more AppleScript commands than any other browser for Mac OS X. Use AppleScript to open/close/select browser tabs and windows, load web pages, click links, and much more.

To learn all about Cruz's AppleScript commands, launch Apple's AppleScript Editor application, select "File → Open Dictionary…", and choose Cruz from the list of applications.

• By default, Cruz displays visual Tab Thumbnails. The Tab Thumbnails can be configured to appear on the sides or bottom of the browser window, or can be replaced by more traditional browser tabs.

• Cruz offers powerful Userscript and Userstyle features. Select the "Window → Userscripts" menu item to view the Userscripts/Userstyles window. Here you can tweak the appearance and behavior of any site on the web using simple URL wildcard matching, CSS and JavaScript.

• Cruz supports customizable URL Shortcuts. Several Shortcuts are pre-configured, and may be edited/deleted/added under "Cruz → Preferences → Shortcuts",

Works Great

I like that it shows the tabs as web pages toward the top of the browser. A bit easier to see which tab you want to got back to again. I got it to log into another email without having to sign in and out. To go to settings, security preference and Cookie Settings - Separate from Safari.

Has a great potential

So far so good. I know that this app is probably not a "5-star" at this point but I'd like to encourage the developer to continue exploring the potential of this browser. To some extent it reminds me on OmniWeb browser (especially when the drawer is extended), but the functionality is more similar to an old Windows IE-based browser called CrystalPort that also had the ability to capture apps in its split-windows (so you could basically run a website in one window, an Excel or MS Word file in the other, etc.). I don't suggest to go the same route with this browser, but simply to explore beyond today's typical browsers. Maybe incorporating a simple POP/IMAP client (alla Opera) or maybe even an ability to drag Fluid apps directly into split windows in cases when one wants to have everything on top rather than hunt through layers of open windows. Anyways, great start.

Freezes constantly on new MacBook Pro

Cruz used to work reliably, more or less. But on the new MBP with Touch Bar, closing the laptop and reopening it next day will guarantee a crash. Worse: for some reason, macOS Sierra will then take 2-3 minutes to login while it’s buzy killing Cruz and generating a crash report.

The app hasn’t been updated since 2012. I hope it gets a refresh soon.
