Description
Dark Time is a simple clock. It has one simple goal, to allow you to see the time, especially when it's dark. It doesn't try to look like a physical clock. It uses a very readable font and color scheme to make the time as readable as possible.
Dark Time was created from a need to see the time in the middle of the night without your iOS device being too bright overall. Some of us are light sensitive and the need for a clock that isn't too bright but is highly visible has existed for a long time.
The author is an instructor of programming at a college in Wisconsin. The app is the result of the author's own journey in learning iOS development. He now teaches iOS development at the college and uses this app as a demo and example. This app is released under an open source license here:

Perfect night-clock, simple, easy dim setting, great default font
Update to my previous review:
This app. perfectly fills a need for many (speaking for myself it does) -- a great looking clock, readable at a distance, that can be set to infinitely variable brightness.
And the presentation is beautiful. When I upgraded my iPad 1 to an iPad 3, I almost kept my iPad 1 so that I would be able to use it as a clock displaying Dark Time (as well as a few other reasons). The appearance is nice enough that it turns an iPad into a very stylish clock that would fit into many decors.
The developer listened to reviewers and added portrait orientation. This is great for me because my iPhone stand keeps the iPhone in portrait mode. Now I will be able to charge my iPhone at night in the Apple charger, and use it as a great night clock at the same time.

This is a great clock in general, but for me I will be using it as a night clock. The default font is great -- very easy to read. Other fonts are available, but I am not even going to try them because the default font is perfect for being able to see the time easily.
A problem with alarm clocks in general is that they can be too bright. This app solves that -- the brightness is infinitely adjustable either in the settings or by swiping left and right on the display (which is my preferred method). Setting the dimness can easily be done with the lights off just by swiping on the display, to get the perfect setting for being able to see the time without it being too bright.
Suggestions for the developer:
- Having other color options for the font. The default red font is a nice color, but a selection of other basic colors would be nice too.
- I have a powered docking station that holds my iPhone in portrait mode, which is perfect for use as a night stand for this app. I would love to have a portrait mode option showing the hour on the top half of the screen and minutes on the bottom.
