Description

Spider solitaire is one of the all time fan favorite solitaire games. Unlike many solitaire games, spider solitaire is a fun and challenging game that requires more strategy than luck. Deluxe Spider plays standard 104 card spider solitaire with either 1, 2, or 4 suits. It's simple to play, but also includes lots of options and features that are sure to please the most serious spider player. Deluxe Spider will take advantage of larger displays for clear and easy to read cards. It also includes a convenient toolbar, appearance options, numbered games, statistics tracking, records best times, game history, secondary mouse support, undo, redo, and much more.

What’s New

Version 2.1.1

This version includes minor bug fixes and several user interface enhancements. It also slightly decreases the card layout spacing. Some players felt that the cards were spaced a bit too far apart in earlier versions.

Winner - Deluxe Spider Solitaire by Glenn Seeman

After upgrading our iMac to the Catalina OS, going from a 32-bit to 64-bit system, it left me with multiple applications that needed to be upgraded. Among them was Glenn Seemann's Deluxe Solitaire suite of apps. My favorite among them is Spider Solitaire, which I played most every day. I tried to find an upgrade or an alternate to satisfy my interest. I downloiaded free solitaire games, and even purchased a couple that left me sadly disappointed. Then I searched "Glenn Seemann" in the App Store anad found that he did have a new version of my favorite solitaire game for a low one time price. I went for it, and I think it's terrific ... the playing area is a little too spread out for my taste and I would prefer it automatically moved completed suits to the finished section of the board. There are a couple of other tweaks I would suggest, but I am delighted to have my favorite solitaire game working on the new 64-bit OS. Thank you, Glenn.

pretty good version

I like it, though there's a few things that seem like they could be streamlined (why not integrate daily challenge directly into the game?).

The biggest issue I have is that the "secondary mouse button" doesn't seem to work. My Mac has only one button (actually, it has no buttons -- it's an Apple magic mouse). I've tried every key combination I can find -- control-click, option-click, command-click, shift-click -- and nothing seems to work. The old version used to allow me to highlight valid moves, but I can't do that now.

UPDATE (based on response): Yes, I have the right option set in the menu -- I just couldn't figure out how to make the secondary mouse button action happen. Turned out i needed to press two fingers on my trackpad. It's working now.

I would be happy to contact you (as suggested), but I can't find any mechanisms to do that besides this review. If I clidk the "contact developer" link, it takes me to your web page where there's no way to submit feedback.

Developer Response ,

Thanks. I’m glad to hear that you like it and I appreciate the suggestions. Deluxe Spider does allow you to assign various functions to the secondary mouse button, including highlighting valid moves. Make sure that the correct option is selected in the “Options Menu -> Secondary Mouse Button”. If you continue to have problems then please contact me and I’ll try to help you resolve it.

Press the HELP button in the game toolbar. The main help window that pops up shows my email address.

I’m adjusting

I was not expecting a complete makeover with the update and I hate change. Although the graphics are more artistic, sometimes a card game should look like a card game. My stats also went somewhere. But, it still pays pretty much the same and I do like that now a completed stack doesn’t automatically run—I get to choose when it goes.

I will keep playing it and will get used to it.
