Another Update:
FINALLY!!!
After almost a year of constant complaints, the interface has finally been repaired. Now I can open the app and go straight to reading the latest issue.
Downloads are still slow (avg 200kbps) but they're faster than the used to be.
The addition of some tap too features would be nice, but at this point I'm just extatic they finally fixed this thing.

For the love of all that is holy, fix the dang interface already! Customers have been complaining about this forever. How is it new versions keep coming out and you haven't addressed this issue yet?
I will say the downloads, though still rediculously slow, are at least better. I can actually manage to download an issue now; it just takes 5 minutes to start the app so I can read it.
Just waiting for my subscription to expire so I can get my content elsewhere. What a shame.

The interface is unbelievably slow, tap and wait as long as 20 seconds for your action. Try to download your issues and it downloads 3, 4, and sometimes 5 copies of the same issue all at once slowing the download process to a crawl. If you don't leave the app open the download stops completely. I tried leaving it overnight, still didn't finish.
If you can finally get an issue downloaded, the acual reader works pretty well, the user interface within the issue is good. The links are handy as well.
The subscription process is rediculous. Can't seem to find how to cancel the monthly subscription, pretty sure I'm being charged for both the monthly and annual subscription.

Still the worst app on my iPad
I really love Flying Magazine, as an airline pilot but still an active general aviation enthusiast and active flight instructor (CFI). However, this iPad app is simply the worst app on my iPad. It is totally unstable.
I've tried each of the updates, from running on the original iPad, iOS 4 and now iOS 5.0.1 with the latest version from the App store. It's worse than ever. I'd like to access settings to cancel this total waste of money but the app keeps crashing before I can get to settings - how poetic. Added to that, the latest update wiped out half of my library (for some reason every other month's issue has been deleted) and it's taken hours to restore. Now I can't even get the app to stay open more than 1 in every 5 attempts!
There are some slow apps out there that download magazines in photo format, etc, but this is literally the worst app I've ever used. If you have more time to spend getting the app to work than actually using it, you might be pleased. For a publisher with such an excellent pedigree and reputation based on their print edition, the fact that the tablet version is so poor is simply a disgrace. Over a year and still a decent app eludes them. Now I'm not sure that I'll want the print edition either.
I feel that my iPad subscription has been a total waste of money for the last 9 months. If only I could get the app to work long enough to write my complaint and cancel my subscription.
