Beautiful but flawed.

The game is visually striking and has amazing audio. The overall design is modern and clean. I personally feel that the game ALWAYS changes, as rocks constantly morph into new groupings and mobile lily pads slow your duck. The game isn't unresponsive; you're a duck on water for chrissakes.

It needs two immediate fixes, however:
-Sensitivity needs user adjustability.
-Often, the coi's head is exactly in the center where the duck drops, leading to cheap and unavoidable deaths.

Generally, I think more power-ups are needed. Please check out "Tilt to Live" or "Starball" for some nicely implemented examples. I love the game despite the shortcomings. Nice job.

RIP to a real one

I bought Fox vs. Duck for a few bucks...probably six years ago, when I was still on my parents’ iTunes account. I have my own now, and just remembered this game and decided to look it up to see whether it stood the test of time.

Whether or not it does, I’ll never know. Turns out, it got bought out. It’s definitely not free, but you can’t just buy it either—you have to pay for a monthly subscription to something called “GameClub,” presumably for limited access to a bunch of other games you’ll never realistically play. Another big win for rent-seeking behavior—who wants to own the games they enjoy anyway, when you could keep paying for them indefinitely instead?

Ah, well; it is what it is. Pour one out for this fun little game—it was nice while it lasted.

Gameplay is simplistic, but with more depth than it might first appear.

There is more to this than meets the eye!

Okay, no need to describe play as it has already been well documented but here are some other bits that impressed the Hell out of me in this seemingly simplistic game.

1) The obstacles in the pond are much more than eye-candy! The rocks stop you dead in your tracks while lily pads will greatly slow you down if you get snagged by them. Heck, even the little school of minnows effects your movement.

2) Saving ducks is not the only way to go. You can also try to make your way as the ultimate duck massacrer which isn't as simple as it sounds. Letting a duck get killed is simple enough but without gaining extra lives or time (depending which mode you're playing), senseless killing will only net you so many.

3) Your final ratio of saved to killed ducks will get your session a title. What is "Warm Duck" vs. "Duck Massacre"?
