Description
Special Stories makes it easy to create your own stories, containing text, pictures and sound. You can read and listen to your stories, print them to any AirPrint-enabled printer, and share them with friends and family.
You can use Special Stories in many ways, including:
- Making photo albums about vacations, trips, and other events
- Improving reading skills
- Encouraging development of spoken language skills
- Creating talking books
- Helping with social skills
- Explaining step-by-step tasks
- Practicing foreign language skills
- Sharing information between home and school
- Sharing news with distant family and friends
You can create as many stories as you wish, and update them again later. Each story can have any number of pages, and each page can have a photo (or any other image), up to 30 seconds of sound you record, and several lines of text. A choice of large and small text sizes, in an easy to read font, allows for either single words and short phrases or longer sentences.
Special Stories has a simple and uncluttered interface for reading and listening to stories, making it suitable for use by children and adults with ASD, Down syndrome, poor fine motor skills, hearing impairment and other learning difficulties.
The easy to use facilities for creating and updating stories are explained in the included Quick Start Guide. The user interface and Quick Start Guide are provided in English, Catalan, Croatian, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish and Turkish, but the app can be used to create stories in any language.
This is a universal app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, and you can easily transfer stories between your devices, using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or e-mail.

What’s New in Version 1.1.0:
• Support for organizing stories into Collections. So you could, for instance, have a collection entitled Holidays or Vacations, and another called School. If working with more than one child on the same device, you can give each child their own collection of stories. Import and export, which previously transferred one story at a time, can now also be used to transfer a whole collection in one go.
• There is now a Settings button in the Extra Actions view, to access the app’s settings without having to launch the Settings app.
• A story can now have a different title to the text on the first page. You can also now enter the author's name, copyright details and additional notes for a story, and notes for a collection.
• It's now possible to have pages without picture or text (or both). To remove the picture or text, swipe across it when editing the page.
• Previous versions had a bug that meant that even if editing had been disabled in the Settings app, it was still possible to delete stories or pages by swiping across them. This is now prevented.
• When printing a story, or emailing as a PDF, each page now has a header and footer, including the story title and page number, and any author and copyright details.
• When importing a story or collection, the option to add as a new one now appears at the top of the list, instead of being hidden at the bottom. Also, if you choose to replace an existing one there's an extra confirmation prompt, so you can avoid accidentally replacing the wrong story or collection if you tap it by mistake.
• We have added Croatian, Dutch and Turkish translations.

Great App!
I was able to create a story in about 10 minutes for my DS son. That alone was well worth the price of the app! I'm sure we'll get lots more use from this.
audio is not working well
I purchased this app for my daughter who has language deficit. When I am preparing the social stories, often the voice recording thing is not working. When I reset everything it is working for few minutes and then not working again. It is quite frustrating. I wish if somebody could address this issue or fix it.
