WHAT IT DOESN'T HAVE
1. No preferences: Don't fumble with settings and formatting, write!
2. No noise: It's a writing machine, it hides everything once you start typing
3. No mouse: You can use it without letting go off the keyboard.
4. Currently ONLY LATIN ALPHABETICAL LANGUAGES, GREEK AND RUSSIAN are supported (NO Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Hebrew, Arabic...).
HIT THE GROUND RUNNING
One of our goals was to create a writing app without settings. When opening Writer, all you can do is write. The only option you have is full screen (⌘+CTRL+F) and FocusMode (⌘+D).
FOCUS MODE (patent pending)
It's a common pattern, that, instead of following the voice and fleshing out the text in one go, people start editing before the text is done. In Focus Mode (⌘+D) you write one sentence at a time.
If you ever get caught in one of those moments, where the big white empty window scares you or when you get stuck in the middle of a text: try Focus Mode.
AUTO MARKDOWN
Auto Markdown will help you to format texts without letting off your keyboard. Auto Markdown automatically formats the Markdown language. It's easy. You can learn it in 30 seconds.
To increase the pleasure of writing is exactly what we intended when creating Writer. A better tool doesn't make a better craftsman, but a good tool makes working a pleasure.

Customer Reviews
an app I didn't know I wanted
Something oddly alluring about the interface, the style, and the idea of this app brought to this moment. The copy in the description is straightforward, clean and simple... just like the app itself. A true tool for writers who just want to get away from it all, or so I thought. What you’re buying for $8.99 (for me it was $9.99) is a promise that finally you'll have only yourself to blame for the quality of your writing. No distractions, just words in a stylish font printed over a textured paper backing meant to invoke memories a simpler time. To be honest that's all I needed to buy this app, but what I didn't expect was the focus mode. It simply fades out all the lines your not currently working on allowing you to move forward for better or worse without the itch to go back and re-read/restructure. For me it is the key element that keeps me in the black on this purchasing decision and not feeling so ashamed that I needed something this simple to keep my productivity level up.
It's been said a good writer will write at least 500 words a day just to get the juices flowing. I don't claim to be a good writer, but I am a writer. I can tell you with confidence I subscribe to the "write what you feel, write what you know" method and if I'm not feeling it then I'm probably not writing at all. I love the simplicity of the interface in this app, it does get rid of everything but the words and on a 27" iMac screen it allows me to forget about everything else that pops up in normal use; the doc, instant messages on g chat, the myriad of other apps waiting for me to activate them at a moments notice. The point is, I thought I was buying a simple writing tool, what I actually did was pay $10 to get my sanity back and that’s worth so much more. My only complaint is that the save format from what I can tell is only readable by the program itself, I would love to see some universal save formats so that it could be that much easier to share my work with others. For now, it’s a simple copy and paste fix.
Professional Writers, Rejoice
As a professional writer, I am always seeking tools that will assist me in getting the job done. Bloated apps like Word and LibreOffice Writer are good for formatting documents, but when I just need to write, I don't need to worry about spell-checks and grammar reviews--write now, fix later. iA Writer lets me do that, and very well. I didn't think the Focus feature would make a difference, but it really does hone your creativity to the sentence level and actually enables me to write faster. Another under-mentioned feature is the capability to export to HTML: very useful for web-based writers like myself!
Great
Writer is a simple, no-frills tool for productive writing. I really enjoy the typography, lack of preferences, and minimalistic yet functional stance that this application takes. Together with the companion iPad app and the new iCloud support, it's quite seamless. The updated full-screen transition is also much appreciated.
It's not for all, but it's good for me. If you need more preferences and flexibility in an equally beautiful package, I'd suggest checking out Byword.
