Description
Volume Decibel Meter provides a way to measure environmental sound levels, showing the approximate dB level (decibel level).
It also provides an approximate "decibel guide" at the bottom of the application interface, so that you know what sound levels correspond to a health hazard.
Please note that microphone sensitivities vary a lot, so the reading you get should be considered approximate (take it with a grain of salt!)
This decibel meter also gives you a convenient start/stop button, and records the minimum and maximum decibel reading. You simply tap on those readings to reset the minimum and maximum back to 0.

NOTICE: Version 1.0.2 has now been released! It has been re-calibrated for the iPhone mic. The old version (v1.0) was calibrated about 30 dB too high.

More accurate than I would have thought
Bought and tried this app after purchasing some new home speakers. My Denon receiver states the decibel output from the receiver and to my amazement the app and the receiver are within 1 decibel up or down. So I'd say the calibration is definitely within a acceptable range for most any use. Also tried with my old speakers to see if that made any difference on the app and same results.
Works as described, lots of fun
Nice app, simple interface and easy to use. I like start/stop (no other volume meter app appears to have this), and the list of readings, which is informative an educational. A good app for your kids, or something to play with at bars. :)
The ONLY one with a Start & Stop feature (at the date of this review)
I just wish it came with an averaging and storing/save feature, too. I got this to test noise levels while car shoping. The start/stop feature is great because you don't have to wait for the app to load (like other apps) and you won't get untimely voices or noises to interfere with max reading. The accuracy is unverifiable, the meter can't be calibrated, and it doesn't have high tech sound engineering features, that's why it gets a 4. But, it's practical, simple, and works.
