Yudo Rectools08pro with it's easy-to-use interface is the perfect tool for music creation . It is also the first 8 channel multi track recorder for the iPhone / iPod Touch! Perfect for band or chorus recordings.
Furthermore rectools is tested and compatible with the iPhone microphone and several external 3rd party iPhone/iPod microphones. and records in 44.1kHz / 16bit top quality. Thanks to the wave edit feature it is also possible to edit and process your recorded data afterwards.

Awesome for an iPhone app
A little pricey for an app, super cheap for a multitrack recorder. I had no external mic, I just used the phone by itself with some headphones and it sounded great for what it is. Don't expect to get the sound quality that you would get out of a digital 8 track, but with an external mic, I would imagine it has potential. I ran it with a 3GS and it never crashed. The developers need to find a better and easier way to convert these songs. Pretty awesome for an app though.
By far the best wannabe DAW on the phone.
Come on. This is Pro Tools on the iPhone. It doesn't get any better than this. Is there a limited track count? Yes. But I'm on a project with 8 channels currently. I can edit and nudge the pieces around to compensate when i get a bit of latency or bad performance. It's got a mixer with panning and a simple fixed ex section. It's amazing. I've demo'd an entire record on this thing. As a 20 year multi instrumentalist and pro recording engineer for the last 10 years, this is the most valuable app i have on my phone. Invaluable. see what I did there?

This really is an amazing example of what an iPhone can do, great for impromptu recording of ideas (musical, not just thoughts).
Just bought an iPad2 so now I'd really be happy if this same app could support both platforms.
I use an external mic from Blue and, for the money, the sound quality really is quite impressive.
