THIS IS SKYSAFARI VERSION 2. FOR THE LATEST VERSION, SEARCH FOR "SkySafari 3 Plus" ON THE ITUNES STORE. MACWORLD 2010 BEST-OF-SHOW WINNER!
SkySafari is a celestial travel guide, designed to help you navigate the night sky. It is brought to you by Southern Stars, previously the mobile application division of Carina Software. SkySafari is our "Pro" iPhone astronomy app - if you are a beginner, or looking for something simpler, you might want to check out SkySafari Lite.

SkySafari lets you use your iPhone/iPad's compass to navigate the night sky, and identify stars and planets. Just shake your phone to activate the compass!
SkySafari puts 300,000 stars, and 30,000 deep sky objects at your fingertips. It renders the planets and moons in detail, using NASA mission imagery.
And SkySafari can turn your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch into a 21st-century telescope controller, pointing your GoTo telescope anywhere in the sky. SkySafari can do this using either a wired serial connection - or wirelessly, with Wi-Fi!
SkySafari includes an Expansion Pack with 2.5 million stars, and more than 300 color deep sky object images, dramatically increasing the realism and usefulness of your sky charts. This is an optional in-app purchase, available in the Settings.
SkySafari precisely shows the sky from any location on Earth, at any time in the past or future. It contains informative descriptions of the planets, stars, and constellations; and includes hundreds of images from both NASA and leading astro-photographers.
SkySafari contains interface themes that let you change the look-and-feel of the app, including a "Night Vision" theme that preserves your dark adaption as you're exploring the night sky.
SkySafari's Time Flow feature lets you animate the night sky using simple VCR controls. Follow the motion of the stars and planets as SkySafari compresses days, months, and years into a few seconds.
SkySafari's simple user interface, and its ability to control your telescope, make it an invaluable tool for exploring the heavens. iPhone Life magazine writes, "SkySafari is the most comprehensive astronomy app available for iOS." See:

Southern Stars has licensed SkySafari to Orion Telescopes and Binoculars for separate distribution on the app store under the name StarSeek. Support questions for StarSeek should be sent to Orion Telescopes. Southern Stars will continue to support, maintain, and develop SkySafari in the future.
What's New in Version 2.1.2
Fixes problems connecting to encoder-based systems and the Orion Intelliscope.
Customer Reviews
Disappointed by version release tactics
Like some other reviewers, I am a fairly serious amateur and use this app to control my telescope. I am knocking a couple of stars off of my rating given the developer's decision to use a 'brand new software release' tactic in its version 3 release rather then provide an upgrade to the current version (as most software developers do). Lack of loyalty to a key customer base will cause those customers to look elsewhere, including this one. Bad business practice.
Good app, but spammy
One of a few excellent apps available in the astronomy space, and while I am not a professional astronomer, the app appears to support several tasks directly related to telescope positioning which I think is impressive.
However... The app has one serious issue (to me anyway)... I've been badgered a couple of times now about new functionality releases and expansions via Home Screen badge notifications... despite such notifications being expressly turned off for the app in Settings. Two stars knocked off for such poor behavior.
Best Astronomy Ap Ever!
I am entirely impressed with this Ap! I study astronomy in the modern text, and have a huge project involving historical astronomy, and use this software to study the heavens on a nightly basis. The quantity of information at one's fingertips is truly astounding, and the developers customer service is TOP NOTCH! I e-mailed them with a question and had an answer that was relevant and useful within an hour!
One thing I would like to see is perhaps a setting that allows the historical Chinese and Japanese constellations to be viewed, with settings to show how there positions would have looked during the middle ages.
I cannot say enough good things about this Ap and it's developers!
