Touch DJ offers realtime independent manipulation of 2 MP3/M4A files, including scratching, looping, positioning, equalization, effects and and pitching. Traditionally iPhone and iPod Touch have only one stereo audio output which limits the possibility of using them as a DJ device. Touch DJ overcomes this limitation by offering innovative and unique way of deejaying which doesn't require additional headphones for prelistening to the tracks.
This technology is called "visual mixing" and it implies the graphic display of the track waveforms next to each other. The low-bass (kick) parts are detected and rendered in different color compared to the rest sonic frequencies, making beatmatching as easy as adjusting the tracks position and pitch so that the kick parts become visually matched.

I hate to have to rate it this low but...
To start off on a good note, this app is positively incredible. Everything about this app is polished, and really fine tuned. A FANTASTIC job by the folks at amidio.
Now for the rough stuff. The library. You cannot import songs from your ipod library, you have to upload them from your computer to a seperate mp3 library specifically for this app. You are essentially just wasting space and memory. Now I believe amidio is trying to tweak it so you can use songs straight from your library, but until then, we are stuck. That feature alone bumps this app down from a professional app, to a gimmicky toy.
The price is also an issue for me. 20 bucks? Any app has got to be the most stellar thing in the world for me to pay 20$ for it and not regret it. This app could EASILY be worth that amount though, if it weren't for the library issue.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the app, but extremely dissatisfied with the library setup. That flaw is enough to lose two stars over. 3/5, as much as I want to give it a 5/5 right out of the gate.

Awesome in EVERY WAY....
I have been fortunate to have beta tested Touch DJ for the last 4 weeks. I've used it live at clubs before and blown people away. At first it's tricky to get the timing down - use the EQ to remove low end from the existing song while you fade in the new song. It will take serious work to get to the point where you can sync perfectly 2 tracks that were originally at different tempos. But practice does make perfection and if you have a pre-set you want to create, you can write down the pitch offsets from one track to the other so that they play in sync.
It's true you can't load directly from your existing iTunes library in your iPod. Maybe this can be resolved in the future, but it's doubtful from my discussions with the geniuses at Amidio. If you are a serious DJ, get the 64GB iPod Touch and you can take a huge library of tracks with you - and you won't need anything else!
Regardless, THIS IS A MIND BLOWINGLY COOL program that does what it says it does with an interface that will blow you away.
