***INSTRUCTIONS***
First, you should understand that Stud finders don't really find studs, they find the metal objects--nails or screws--that are embedded in the studs, SO you will know where the Stud is. A mistake often made by first-time users is to swipe a section of wall (left to right) without finding a stud, and then, wrongly concluding that there's something wrong with the device. The problem isn’t the studfinder, it’s that you may be swiping an area where there are no nails or screws.
The simple technique that we recommend at Studfinder Professional is to hold the iPhone flat against the surface, then press CALIBRATE and then begin a slow, left-to right swiping motion (approximately three feet to four feet).
If you do have an unsuccessful swipe, simply go back to your starting point--raise the Studfinder Professional six-ten inches higher--hit “recalibrate,”-- and start a second three to four foot swipe.
The key--until you locate a stud--is to keep going back to your starting point and raising your studfinder about six inches ("raising it up One iPhone length") and swiping again until you locate a nailed area of a stud. Remember to recalibrate before every swipe ("SLIDE").
You’ll find that your Studfinder Professional WILL produce the same results as a professional grade studfinder device purchased at the hardware store.

Terrible
I watched the video and used the app over 2 studs I know were there. I dragged the phone vertically over the known studs and it wouldn't find anything. I held it over a damn nail and.... Nothing. The only time it finds a "stud" is when I lift the phone off the wall.
Save your money.
Hung a Painting
I was able to hang my painting on the stud in my dry wall without any problems.
Waste of money
Bought this app for my iPod touch. It doesn't work. I get a message that tells me I need a compass and should report it to iTunes purchase pproblems. Yeah right if I could find it! Spent an hour trying to locate a place to report this. Finally went to the developer's website. Hope they are nice enough to refund the $3.99. It's only $3.99 but it adds up and I think that's why they don't make it easy to get your money back.
