Customer Reviews
Marginally useful unless you have the right car
It's difficult to review the MBrace app separately from the underlying service. Unfortunately, MBrace's features are highly model dependent. Even though it covers some MB models stretching back to 2007, only with the 2010 model year does it cover most of the range. In my case, the features available for my 2009 CLK are extremely limited (something MB fails to state during the purchase process). For example, none of the Send2Benz features work and I can unlock but not lock my car via the iPhone app. The result is that the app is, for me, a one-trick pony. And the unlocking process is almost comically cumbersome (send an unlock request from the app, wait a couple of minutes for a response, then hold the trunk release for "up to 50 seconds" until the car unlocks).
I'd advise investigating very closely what MBrace features are supported for your car before taking the plunge on the service. I'm not too disappointed, because the unlock feature is a nice-to-have and MBrace only costs a few dollars more than renewing my Tele-Aid subscription, so it's largely a wash. Coming from a car company long reputed for their technological innovation, however, the service is pretty half-baked. It's outsourced to Hughes Telematics, so that might explain some of the lameness.
They used to say, "if you want to know what'll be in your car in 10 years, drive an S-Class." Pretty soon, they'll be saying, "if you want to know what'll be in your MB in ten years, drive a Ford."
Utterly Useless
After having Mercedes require its owners to switch over from the old vehicle assistance system to MBrace on the promise that there would be many new features like lock/unlock and locate the car (and paying $300 for the switch), I discovered (as have the other reviewers here) that most of the services promised are unavailable unless you have a 2010 or later Mercedes. The MBrace app is pretty much useless and worse, after a recent update, would not even accept my account number and PIN to reactivate it, saying I had "too many attempts", although I entered the correct account number the first time.
What is even worse however, is the service itself. I had a breakdown in the middle of a major highway in Miami. I pushed the SOS button and was connected to an MBrace operator, who informed me that I would have to call 911 myself and that I would have to contact a towing company myself (which are exactly the services for which I subscribed to the service in the first place). Fortunately, I happened to have my dealer's phone number on my phone, called them and they immediately sent a tow truck out looking for me and even kept their service department open an hour later until I got there and gave me a loaner car. (Yea, Mercedes Benz of Coral Gables!)
Useless
None of the features of this app works for my 2008 ML350. Can't locate my car, lock/unlock did not work. It says the Send2Benz is not compatible with my car even though the dealer performed the required mbrace update to my COMMAND. I'm canceling mbrace. Junk.
