Description

★ Know Sanibel-Captiva from the inside out. ★

Sanibel Island, Florida: It conjures images of seashell-carpeted beaches, lazy gulf waves, skies and beaches full of birds and other wildlife, and palm-tree-silhouetted skies. Readers of Conde Nast Traveler name it among the top 10 U.S. islands year after year. Birding and paddling magazines also sing its praises. Sister island, Captiva, also wins kudos for its romantic sunset beaches and end-of-the-world quirky seclusions.

Besides suntans, the islands nurture their own brand of culture inspired by the beauty and rawness of its nature. Carefully developed to prevent condo-buildup and overdevelopment, the islands boast their lack of traffic and street lights. They boast instead, their rural, small-town nature where dining on local seafood and shopping at candy shops, fashion boutiques, and art galleries while away time off the beach.

About two-thirds of the islands have been preserved by government and private stewardship for the enjoyment of bikers, hikers, kayakers, boaters, and other nature lovers. Its calm seas further encourage exploration in the great outdoors where fishing, sailing, water-skiing, snorkeling, island-hopping provide adventure.

This guide takes you to the islands’ don’t miss and secret wildlife attractions, museums, and restaurants with an evaluative eye toward what’s best and what’s not. Helpful information, images, and a review of each location gives you the full picture.

Customer Reviews

The island as the locals know it

My parents live on Sanibel and I go to the islands frequently (and my husband and I were even married at 'Tween Waters!) What I like most about this app is that the author gives you straightforward reviews of the places that those who live on Sanibel acually visit. Well done!

It's ok

It's an opinionated app which is only done by the editor of course you can leave a comment but not add content. Could use tons more content even if it means more photos please!. It's also mainly food based and no shops are added some really nice shops near Jerry's they are excellent.
I don't know but alot of restaurants on Sanibel has a thing with fries overweighting food portions, portions should be discussed as well, tourist gimmick not to say unhealthy been going there 15 years every summer. The editor adds some mediocre restaurants and denies some users ideas on better restaurants not all the time are they consistent... I respect this is coming from a local and a person who believes in their local business making it a feel good app but has a long way to! Honest review I just went aug 14 2010 and used this app. I am a bit disappointed.
