Description
Please Note: The MIDI* record and play features of this free app require a hardware MIDI interface accessory from Line 6: either the MIDI Mobilizer II, or the original MIDI Mobilizer. MIDI Mobilizer is the world’s first MIDI interface for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, making it the perfect addition to any MIDI musician’s toolkit. MIDI Mobilizer II is the new CoreMIDI compliant version. For more information on the hardware and the many compatible MIDI apps, please visit www.line6.com/midimobilizer.
MIDI Memo Recorder simply records and plays any MIDI data - any time, any place. The app's streamlined design makes it quick and easy to store, find, recall, and even email any type of MIDI information - all your synth sounds, Line 6 effect patches, musical inspirations, and more. And with iOS version 3.2 and higher, MIDI files can also be transferred between your mobile device and your computer using iTunes File Sharing.
The MIDI Memo Recorder app, in conjunction with the MIDI Mobilizer hardware MIDI interface accessories, is compatible with every single product equipped with standard 5-pin MIDI connectors - that means literally millions upon millions of keyboards, amplifiers, effects devices, and other types of audio gear throughout the world.
The MIDI Memo Recorder app also serves as the firmware updater for the MIDI Mobilizer and MIDI Mobilizer II hardware MIDI interface accessories. That means you can always get the latest firmware simply by updating to the current version of the MIDI Memo Recorder app and running it.
* "MIDI" stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, the worldwide standard for communicating musical performance data between musical devices, computers, and mobile devices.

Customer Reviews
Does what it says it will do.
Does what it claims to be able to do. Relevant to my needs.
All You need from a simple MIDI librarian.
I think this turned out to be one of the most handy music tools for ios I have.
Installed and got it working with the mobilizer 2 on both the ipad2 and iPad touch - recording, saving and sending sysex dumps in about a minute.
At first I thought installing it in order to use the mobilizer was an obtrusive nuisance but I'm using this a lot as a backup buffer when sound designing, so it's turned out to be really a nice bonus app with the mobilizer.
Needs Improvement
You can export midi via email but you can't import it from email. How am I supposed to backup/restore or transfer my MIDI files to this app on other devices? This is really easy to do programming-wise, I think you just have to register the filetype to open with your app and then include a little code to receive the file.
And why does this app require iOS 4.2? My own app supports both MIDI mobilizer 1 and CoreMIDI, and the MIDI Mobilizer 1 still works great on my first gen iPhone running iOS v3.1.3. It doesn't make sense to restrict the entire app to 4.2 -- instead detect the iOS version and only enable CoreMIDI if it's 4.2 or greater. Here's the code: if ([[[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion] floatValue] >= 4.2 ) { // ENABLE COREMIDI } else { // ONLY INIT MIDI MOBILIZER 1 SUPPORT }
The user interface could also be a bit more streamlined. I should at least be able to rename files directly from the main interface and file list interface without having to go into a slow-opening subscreen first.
