The stories in Rock 'N Learn Phonics Easy Reader 1 provide practice using the following phonics material: short vowel sounds, consonant-vowel-consonant combinations, words ending with ll, ss, ff, s, and plural s.
The “Memory Words” presented at the beginning of each story are words that do not follow phonics rules.
On the title screen, you may choose one of two modes: “Read to Me” or “Let Me Try.”
During “Read to Me” the story is read aloud. Words are highlighted so that learners may read along. The pause button may be pressed at any time. A play button will appear while the story is paused so that users may resume the story whenever they want. During the pause mode, learners can also opt to return to the main menu with the home button in the upper left corner.
During “Let Me Try” learners can read the sentences by themselves. If they need help with a particular word, they may tap the word to hear it. After reading each sentence for themselves, they may press the play button to check their accuracy. Forward and Back arrows allow learners to maneuver through the story at their own pace. Learners may also use a swipe gesture to turn pages.

I feel cheated - there are better apps for less money
There are barely three "stories," each with a few sentences. For a beginner reader, this relies FAR too heavily on sight words. I am a near-purist, though I do teach "a," "I," "the" and the like - but as phonetic previews, not sight words. I wish I could get my money back, as I deleted it almost instantly, before my son even had the chance to try it.
Perfect Practice
I LOVE the feature in the "Let Me Try" section that allows beginning readers to tap a single word to hear it if they are having trouble with it! My son's face lights up when he pushes the play button and the sentence is read the same way he read it. This has boosted his confidence in his ability to read by leaps and bounds.
Good App for beginners
I Love this app. It has helped my 6 year old autistic son gain confidence. The "Let Me Try" feature is fantastic because they can read and then click the play button to make sure they have everything alright. The only bad thing: it has just 3 stories. Please update with more!
