Beautiful, Innovative App

WeatherHD is one of the best weather app for the Mac - I know, I've tried the others. It has a beautiful user interface, very sleek and modern and incredibly user friendly and customizable - it's also Lion-enhanced. It offers more detailed weather information, such as dew point, precipitation chances, and wind speed and direction. What sets this app apart from the competition however, is the video animation of the weather, detailed information on the phases of the moon and the interface itself.

As great as this app is, there is still plenty of room for improvement. First, the menubar icon; I'd much rather the current temperature than a cloud. When you click on the cloud you see the temperatures in all of the locations you set. With Swackett X, they show you the temperatures for the next seven days (highs and lows). To this apps credit, I love the fact that the menubar icon highlights red when there is a severe weather warning and the icon can be set to stay in the menu bar, even after the app is closed. Second issue is the maps. The maps are on the small side (in windowed mode), and they offer no animation at all, not even for clouds and radars, even though animation was said to be added in this update. Finally the hourly forecast; great information, but I'd like to see a full twenty-four hours and be able to scroll through the list, and I'd like it to be more accurate. I find WeatherHD to be off by a couple degrees from Yahoo! and Weather.com

In conclusion, a few minor issues, but overall a great app - you won't find anything else like it. The animations are gorgeous, it's like looking out the window, especially with snow and thunderstorms. If you're looking for a good weather app thats suitable for daily use - download this app, it's worth every penny! If you're looking for something more basic, accurate, and lightweight try Swackett X.

Beautiful, but...

I grew up with my mom watching TWC and/or the local news for weather, so this is so much more entertaining than the elevator music and/or EXCESSIVELY annoying weathermen of my youth. This said the one thing I absolutely and positively miss with this application that these two did much better is the text form of the forecast. I know this app is suppose to be pretty, but I want it to be as functional as it is pretty. I wanna know the same things they say on TWC. You know, "Tomorrow - Blustery, winds 10-20mph. There will be periods of snow showers. Up to one inch accumulation. High 20, low 5." What would be equally as useful for my purposes (honestly) is just having the ability to direct-link to a site such as TWC or the like.

I guess I have two more complaints. Yes the clouds in the top turn red, but I feel they should alert every so often (once every 10 minutes or so?) to severe weather. There have been more than once where I haven't known I was on a Tornado Watch until it turned to a warning and the sirens sounded outside. It would be also useful if this would givbe a popup (don't know if that's possible) and have the ability to silence the one particular warning until it expires.

Finally I would like to be able to see Radar data innately in the app. Our weather guys get it wrong on a frequent basis, so it's nice to look at the map yourself at times just to make sure I'm not square in line site of the storm(s).

As you can see, the app is beautiful and does what it does well.

'pretty' good

Great application for viewing weather among many cities. Can view clouds, radar, temp, dew, humidity, and wind of current day and next day. Graphics are great and different than what you'v ever seen before. Full screen view is great. Has the ability to view the temps of the upcoming week. Updates every few minutes. Has satellite and map views. Has the ability to zoom in on a location for radar and maps. Views moon phases.

ONLY PROBLEM: the smallest the window can get is half screen!!! The ONLY way to minimize it is if you drag 90% of it out of the right side of the screen, leaving the left sliver which includes the upcoming week's temps. This is a problem because your harddrive and folders are all on the right side of your desktop and will be covered by this app :(. They need to add a minimize feature which makes the window 2 inches x 2 inches, showing 5 or so days of temps and the most important data - so you can put the window in one of the corners of your desktop and leave it there unobstructing any folders you want to access..

Still - for the price, I recommend it. Just wait for this feature to be added on an update....HOPEFULLY
