A separate download gives you the essays and commentary from our weekly magazine of ideas, The Chronicle Review. (The sections are separate to provide faster downloads.)
If you have your own subscription to the weekly print or digital edition of The Chronicle, you can use this App to download iPad editions at no cost. Non-subscribers can subscribe or purchase individual issues of the news section and The Chronicle Review.

Who needs a print version?
I really like this app. I don't even carry my paper copies of the Chronicle with me anymore. When my subscription comes due again in January, I'm only going to get the electronic version. My only complaint is that I wish the "My Library" screen only showed the issues I've downloaded and not everything I could download (e.g., I rarely read much out of the Chronicle Review, just the Chronicle). I'd prefer to only see everything available for download in the "Newsstand" section. Would have given 5 stars otherwise. But easy to navigate and read. Would definitely recommend.
Buggy
It looks like it has possibilities but the current version has a glitch. I tried to sign in with my account which does not have an current subscription attached. Even though I have a Chronicle account, the apps says that it cannot display premium content because I don't have a subscription. However, now the "News stand" screen does not work. I continually get "communication errors" instead. I can't even go back and purchase a subscription or a single issue! Looks like I will continue reading the print version that is delivered at the office.
Buggy
As a previous reviewer said, the current version is not usable. This is too bad as I've been reading The Chronicle through the iPad app for most of a year. When it works, it's is good. It has always been a little buggy, but until now it has been usable.
I hope they'll correct the problem soon.
