Description
The SLP Goal Bank is designed to be used as a clinical tool for speech and language pathologists. The SLP Goal Bank is an application developed by Smarty Ears, LLC designed to serve as a starting point to speech and language pathologists when creating goals for children and adults with speech and language delay.
It is designed specifically for speech and language pathologists with the appropriate training and accreditation to allow them to work with these clinical populations and should only be used by such professionals.
These goals have been created by trained speech and language pathologists following the guidelines provided by various training programs worldwide. They have been developed as a guide to planning appropriate intervention for patients/clients with a range of communication and swallowing disorders. However, the app only provides a general framework for treatment goals. Each client will present with individual needs, and therefore the app allows for tailoring of specific goals to these requirements. Remember that this should only be done following thorough evaluation. After all, you have to know what you want your client to be able to do.
The following tips will help you to use the goal bank effectively. Keep the “SMART” goal framework in mind when planning for your clients. Goals must be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.
Choose the specific disorder type/ area of need for your client: e.g Articulation, Dysarthria, AAC etc.
Goals may be of the following types:
Annual Goals = where do you want the client to be in one year (needs to be realistic, yet functional), needs to be measurable,
Short Term Objective or benchmarks = steps towards the annual goal, demonstrates growth,
In creating your goal you will need to:
1. Address who the goal is for.
Student will…/Patient will/Caregiver will
2. Describe what it is you want the client to do.
Produce the /r/ sounds in simple words…
3. Give other conditions are required for the goal.
Given a verbal model…, with maximum cueing…..with hand over hand prompt……
4. Give the criteria for achieving the goal.
With 90% accuracy in 4 consecutive therapy sessions…
5. State how the goal will be measured.
As measured by pre and post assessment baselines.
Remember, goals need to be attainable. Do not choose so many goals that none of them are attained. Working on fewer goals will typically yield better results.

Nice concept, poor execution
I purchased this app as a jumping off point for goals and a storage bank for my own goals.
As an SLP working in multiple settings with diverse populations, I thought it would be great to have a central location to store the goals I typically use or have found for those moments I'm stuck and need an extra idea for a patient/student. The goals that are already in the app are ok for a beginning point, but I really wanted to enter my own as well.
The good: the concept is nice and some of the app works. You can drag/drop goals onto a notepad of sorts and then edit them to your heart's content. You can also email them to yourself for quick cut/paste.
The bad: the "add your own goals" part of the app does not work, plain and simple. Once you add maybe one to three goals, the app goes haywire. It will duplicate goals on your list that you've entered, prevent you from deleting or changing a goal, and prevent you from adding any more than those 2 or 3 you've manage to input. And then the real kicker is.. if you've managed to get a few goals into the system, they will be lost once the app is stopped or the device is turned completely off. I even uninstalled the app and reinstalled.. same issues.
I do have to give some credit to the developer for initial prompt response to my concerns. However, the technical issues I'm encountering seem to be beyond her scope of assistance. I'm very disappointed in my purchase at this time. I guess I can only hope the technical people will promptly correct these errors.

This app is a waste of money! It does not have a very diverse set of goals and those that are listed are not that good.
Great start, but needs refining
I love the idea of having a large bank of goals to choose from at IEP writing time. The note pad is nice, and the ability to email is also a good feature. As stated previously, however, the add goals feature is confusing and causes crashes. I lost four added goals. Without this feature the app is not worthwhile. I hope it can be fixed, it has potential to be a very useful app.
