Final Fantasy III -- now on iPhone and iPod touch!
First released in 1990, Final Fantasy III was the first title in the Final Fantasy series to become a million-seller, establishing once and for all that Square Enix's classic RPG saga was here to stay.
The full 3D remake released in 2006 duplicated the original's success, selling over a million copies worldwide.
Final Fantasy III was a hallmark of innovation for the entire series, from the job system that lets characters change classes at any time to the ability to summon powerful creatures such as Shiva and Bahamut.
When darkness falls and the land is robbed of light, four youths are chosen by the crystals to set forth on a journey to save the world.

Good, but hear me out.
Okay, so this game is great but once you beat it, there's no point. Sure you could max out the jobs but that just doesn't appeal to many. My idea: DLC. I understand that this is an old game but that doesn't mean you couldn't add expansions. I'm talking things like mew jobs, armor and weapons, spells and most importantly: dungeons and quests. Maybe even raise level cap. and have a playthrough 2. Then maybe charge 3.99 for an add-on pack or something. People would definitely buy it! If you are reading this and agree, post something about it!
Awesome
Basically FF3 with FF7 graphics. Yay!
A lost classic, in perfect form
"Final Fantasy III? Wasn't that on the SNES??"
Yes, but that one was the sixth in the series. The true Final Fantasy III is one of those games that few people outside the franchise know, and even fewer within the franchise really appreciate.
Undiscovered until the rise of the Internet and its "emulation scene" in the early 2000's, the game once thought of as too like its predecessors to be playable in America, finally comes full circle in its 2011 retelling. A silver-tressed youth is engulfed by an unexplained earthquake while adventuring, 1,000 years after a great battle to save the world. A blind, clairvoyant race foretells of many such tremors, and a darkness covering the world. Having fallen into the Altar Cave, the boy is suddenly confronted by a small pack of monsters, which he must defeat. As he resumes his excursion, a voice calls him to find the others who share his fate.
So begins an epic quest involving Light, Darkness, Crystals, Jobs, and a whole lot of unexplained phenomena in the thick of it all. You take on the role of the boy and his companions on this quest, using the powers of four Elemental Crystals to assume the roles of different fighters in the battles you face. Each fighter type has its own strengths and skills, but you are free to explore different combinations as you see fit. This aspect alone would set a precedent for future Final Fantasy installments.
For 16 years, this classic had been shrouded in mystery; and in 2006, it would create new fans in North America. But one year ago, it took its most defining leap into the App Store. Far from perfect at first, the iOS port has actually become Final Fantasy III's best and most faithful port, from the 1990 Japanese original that continued building one of gaming's greatest empires into what it is today.
Is it worth the $16 asking price? You decide. It's hard to argue with a captivating story, beautifully-rendered graphics, and hundreds of possible Job arrangements. All in all, it's a great starting point for new RPG fans and a worthy addition to veterans' extensive collections.
