Photochroms—color lithographs made from photographic negatives—were popular for a few decades from about 1890 on, before color photography was commercially viable. These are from the Library of Congress collection, all of which are now in the public domain.
You can scroll through all of them in a grid, view them full-screen, or see a slideshow. You can also buy prints and link to the Library of Congress page for each photochrom. Images are sized to fill the screen (iPhone/iPod Touch or iPad).
This Ultimate version includes all photochroms from Volumes 1, 2, and 3 at a savings over the separate apps.

Awesome app!
This is an amazing app and a must-have collection of photographs. It's wonderful that Marc has unearthed these fine photographs for us all to enjoy now. I had no idea they existed. The photography is of course excellent, and the hand coloring is just superb: subtle and yet rich. Best of all, they give us a gorgeous window into long-past times, letting us see relatively unspoiled scenics that you just cannot find in today's hubbub. You also see interesting, quaint old sailing vessels, and a style of dress that is of an age passed.
This app is a bargain! Buy it, you won't be sorry.
