StreetPilot onDemand includes 30 days of access to Premium Navigation with Traffic. After 30 days, you can still enjoy many navigation functions, or you can opt for a monthly or yearly subscription via in-app purchase. Works great for me!
I read a lot of the negative reviews…and I wondered how much of it has to do with their cellular service, and not the application itself. I am in Pittsburgh and AT&T is my provider. I have had a very good experience with this app…both locally and when I travel away from home. My regular Garmin unit died after many years of good use, so I decided to give this a try, and have been very happy with it! The only thing I miss is the voice that says "recalculating!" :-)
Best GPS App (and I'm picky!)
I had a two Garmin StreetPilot PNDs before buying this app, and I was skeptical. I also tried some other app store competitors. This is by far the best solution. I have a car mount that has both power and audio connections from the dock port, and my iPhone takes over as radio and nav while I'm driving. The app has an elegant interface that maintains even the subtle details I loved about Garmin stand alone units, like hold the back button to jump home, and touch the direction to hear it repeated. The google and Facebook integration, and the ability to use my iCloud sync-d address book make this solution much better than any stand alone could be. Also, Garmin seems to be putting consistent effort into development, every version gets better. My only complaints are that the voice quality for turn by turn is lower than competitors (it's server side audio, I think), and it can't prefetch maps if you know you're going to go outside data coverage- but that's why they sell a downloadable database version.
Norm's phone
I just downloaded this app, it works great as long as you are in 3G territory. For some of the reviews they complained about the battery life, you can turn the screen off from the top of your phone and leave the app on and it will continue to give you verbal directions and not use your battery. You do not need to leave it plugged in to the charger because it will probably overheat your phone. It is a great app so far I have only begun to use it.
