There are hundreds of gps apps. Do we really need one more?
Ariadne GPS is more than a simple gps app.
Besides offering you the possibility to know your position and to get information about the street, the number, etc. it also lets you explore the map of what's around you.
What do we mean by saying "explore"? You'll deal with a talking map. If you have VoiceOver activated on your device, you will be able to know the street names and numbers that are around you by touching them.
Just put your finger on the screen of your device, when showing the map and moving it you will be told the info's about the street you're touching.
Your position is on the center of the screen. What's in front of you is on the top half of the screen and things behind you are on the bottom half of the screen.
You can also explore a different region than the one around you by telling the app the street and the city.
You can ask for information about your position at any time, also activating a function, called monitor, that will give you this info periodically (Please read the note below).
This app has also got some other useful features that might help when walking or traveling by bus, train etc.
If you add your favourite points to the app database, you can be alerted when you get closer than a certain distance to one of them.
This app is completely accessible using VoiceOver and gives you access to information that are normally unavailable to people using the speech synthesizer and can be therefore especially useful to blind and partially sighted people.
Note: The features of Ariadne GPS are based on the location services and on the Maps server for what concerns the information about the position. This information may not be accurate, due to the location accuracy, which is generally below fifteen metres but in some cases can be few tens of metres and to the Maps service, which might be unresponsive at certain times (Ariadne GPS will tell you if this is the case). The aim of Ariadne GPS is to give you an idea of your position and what is around you. Please do not completely rely on it.

What's New in Version 2.0
Main screen
1. The "Where Am I" and "Add to Favorite" buttons have been moved to the top half of the screen;
2. A new item reporting the closest favorite (or a tracked favorite), its distance, and relative position has been added to the home screen;
3. The direction of movement item has been moved to the top half of the screen, next to the compass;
List of Favorites screen:
4. An Option button has been added for managing Favorites, which opens a menu with the following items:
a. "Create Favorite," using geographic coordinates,
b. Cancel Favorite Tracking, if active,
c. Import favorites from "Loadstone," (using iTunes and a file called ls.txt);
5. A search function has been added to the list of favorites;
6. The list of Favorites can now be reordered by distance with a shake of the device;
Favorite details screen:
7. An Options button has been added to the Favorites manager, which opens a menu with the following items:
a. Track favorite,
b. Edit favorite,
c. Show on the map,
d. Delete favorite;
Map screen:
8. In map exploration, information about lakes, rivers and oceans is announced and the sound of water is played;
9. When exploring the map, information about interesting locations--such as churches, parks, and hospitals--is given;
10. In map exploration, information about the size of the area being displayed and the details that can be explored are provided;
11. The relative position of a favorite was introduced on the main screen, on the List of Favorites, and on the favorite details. Users who are at a fixed location can choose to have the device vibrate or play a sound when they point the device at a Favorite;
12. New search criteria were added for exploring an area. A text field is provided for users to enter whatever details they want when searching for places;
13. The search result now shows more details to let users better identify the places they're looking for;
14. Favorites can now be created from a search result, by tapping the info button associated with the point users wish to add;
15. Any favorite can now be shown in the center of the map, and users can explore the region around the favorite;
16. Minor bug fixes.

Nothing like it
It's a touchable, interactive, talking map. It's a talking tour guide when you're walking outdoors or riding in a vehicle. It's an orientation tool that will remember places that you've been, and help you to find them again.
Its accessible map is an unique and innovative feature. The ability to pull out your device anywhere, and instantly be able to feel the arrangement of streets, regions, even cities, is an amazing orientation aid.
It would be nice if this app could integrate with other GPS apps, though. For example, this app need not directly include turn by turn directions, but it would be great if you could select a place on the map, and have this app open another GPS app to provide that info. I've seen other apps that can open Navigon, so it's possible.
Still, this app does a great job at what it is designed to do, and is well worth the cost.
