Customer Reviews

Who knew a Mac could get so dirty?

I've recommended the original CCleaner to PC-using friends and family, and had been following the development of CCleaner for Mac from beta to full-blown release. It's just about as thorough as OnyX but with far less likelihood of removing too much. The first time I ran CCleaner, it recovered a whopping 14GB of hard drive space. To put things in perspective, my first PC (I'm a convert) came with a 6GB hard drive.

What does it all mean? Well, contrary to popular belief, dragging an app to the trash doesn't always remove everything that came with it. After a year's use or so, you could end up with 10 or more gigabytes of drive space you can't use because it's occupied by orphan files. CCleaner compares your installed apps with known helper files for common apps. If the app's not there, you don't need the support files that were left behind. To be on the safe side, make sure your system is backed up before the first run.

Your humble user has experienced none of the issues with Safari or other apps as reported in other reviews nor any issues running and using CCleaner. I use Safari almost every night to listen to Phil Hendrie via I Heart Radio while running Firefox to browse the web. Every app runs and closes as it should.

Now that CCleaner is in the App Store, you can be assured you'll always have the freshest version. Since an update might revert all the settings to default, take a moment to review the settings before the first run after an update.

Just what I needed, but very dangerous

I lost my dock and all preferences immediately after cleaning, uninstalling, and fixing install permissions with this program. Hopefully that is all I lost. Grrrr! At least it was free, so I am not too angry. Keep trying to make this program safer, please!

Excellent multi tool app

CCleaner is an incredible app to have on a Windows machine, and having it on OS X is an equally great idea. It's fast and efficient at finding the unnecessary files, and it's also smart about it as well so you don't have to worry about it removing something important.

Highly recommended.
