Description
iGrok* is based on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) as developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg. It offers specific tools to better understand our self and connect with others. iGrok includes the full NVC model/process of “honesty and empathy” with emphasis on empathy—to be fully present with yourself and the other person in the moment. Empathy affects and influences the quality of connection, invites further dialogue, and prepares us for creative solutions.
Empathetic listening, using the NVC model, consists of listening for the person’s feelings and needs and what they are requesting to make their life more wonderful. This application includes a scrolling list of 128 feelings words and 118 needs words to support you in making an empathetic connection along with examples demonstrating how to structure sentences when offering empathy, sharing honesty, or practicing self-empathy.

*In Robert Heinlein's science-fiction novel, Stranger in a Strange Land, the word “grok” is Martian and literally means "to drink" but metaphorically means "to take it all in," to understand fully, or “to be at one with."

Customer Reviews
Are you feeling disappointed? Are you needing more content?
yes, and yes... this application is a well-intention first try. It does little more than list the feelings and needs, and even that it does not do very well. Hard to scroll through the lists. How about separate screens for feelings and needs? How about setting it up so that the user can select from the lists, and highlight the applicable words? Something to give it more spaciousness, so it's easier to read? And something to make it a more interactive application, so it'll be used by a broader audience, not just nvc-geeks?

I have come to expect a particular level of functionality whenever I spend $1.99 (plus tax) at the App Store. Sadly, this expectation remained unfulfilled for me in the present case! Compared with most products available at the App Store, the product under review did not deliver the level of functionality that its price tag seemed to suggest or implicitly promise. When an item I have purchased in good faith, particularly one that I cannot return for a full refund, fails to meet my (reasonably fair) expectation for performance and functionality, I feel sad, unsatisfied, disappointed, and even a little frustrated. This is because my needs for fairness and consistency are not being met. In light of this, I am wondering whether the creators of this (potentially powerful) program would consider expanding its range of performance and increasing its level of functionality through FREE updates. I do hope that they would! To show my confidence that this would indeed be the case, I am giving it five stars. My rating refers not to what this app does, which isn't much, but to what it may be able to do in the future!
