Customer Reviews
Best school ever!
No dress code, bathroom breaks whenever, phone calls and texting are allowed. Only complaint is that my classmate meows sometimes, but that's not really a big deal.
Exceptional
It surprises me that there isn't more reviews of this application. Actually, it frustrates me to think that more people with iOS devices aren't more interested in higher education when it's so elegantly delivered (not to mention free) directly to one's phone. Amazing stuff.
Great Concept- Poorly Executed
I love the concept of iTunes U, but Apple needs to tend to it's long neglected garden of learning.
1- The navigation and organization are horrible unless you have endless hours to wander through the kludged interface. The app needs a powerful filter and search function so that someone can quickly find what they are looking for.
2- Why no companion app on the Macintosh App Store? I would greatly prefer using learning materials on my desktop Macintosh with it's large display compared to the micro displays of iOS devices. We do not all have the eyes of an 18 year old.
3- The content providers have in some instances used iTunes U as a dumping ground for podcasts unrelated to formal coursework. Apple needs to enforce some rules for organization/navigation.
4- There is no advance filter the user can apply to limit material displayed to a particular level. For example, if I am a high school student searching Mathematics AP coursework I will be looking for different coursework than an adult learner seeking a refresher or college audit type course.
5- The search filters should allow for filtering complete courses from mini courses. As I have detailed above the search function is really lame and weak.
6- As others have detailed, coursework that has been subscribed has disappeared or never appeared in the first place.
7- iTunes does not allow local (read Macintosh or PC via iTunes) backup of content.
8- Apple has not produced a guide for newbies to get the most out of the app, which limits greatly who will be able to use the service effectively.
I have loved learning all my life and can see the great potential this service (iTunes U) could be if properly organized and delivered. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
