Description
Let’s Do It, Romania! is the biggest social involvement project in Romania and part of the letsdoitworld.org initiative. The 2010 edition mobilized 200,000 people who gathered in a single day over 550,000 bags of refuse.
The iPhone app is a key element used for mapping purposes. Once the app started, the user gets to see his location on a map and can proceed to add a garbage entry with the following data:
- a description and estimate of the bags needed for collection
- whether the garbage is dispersed or not
- what percentage of the garbage is glass, metal or plastic
- photos can also be added to an entry, with the option to view them
- location of the garbage is automatically filled in if available, it can also be manually edited by the user
As the entry is completed it is saved in the Garbage List to be uploaded later to a central location. Only entries located in Romania are accepted.
Over 500,000 volunteers are expected on the 24th of September 2011 to clean the countryside.
