Description
There is an ongoing need for new therapies to help patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) meet target levels of glycemic control, as well as the long-term goals of preventing microvascular and macrovascular complications.
This free, electronic textbook discusses the role of newer and emerging treatments in meeting those goals. Chapters are supplemented by hyperlinks to external multimedia resources such as illustrations, videos, journal articles, and other resources that enhance understanding of relevant issues.
The first chapter outlines goals of therapy for T2DM based on current professional guidelines. Chapters 2 and 3 describe the mechanism of action, efficacy, and safety of one of the newer classes of T2DM therapies, DPP-4 inhibitors. Chapters 4 and 5 describe the mechanism, efficacy, and safety of the up-and-coming class of SGLT-2 inhibitors.
This online textbook offers CME, CE, and CPE credit to endocrinologists, family practice/primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists involved in the management and treatment of T2DM.
