Description
Take a tour of the mysterious Red Planet. This virtual globe combines a high-resolution satellite map with laser altimeter data and advanced topographic lighting to present the planet Mars as it appears from above. An Introduction and Guided Tour present some of Mars' most intriguing features. You can leave the guided tour and explore Mars as you like; over 1500 surface features have been annotated with information and links. Mars Globe HD is a must-have app for anyone interested in our solar system.
"My science classes were never like this... a terrific demo of the power of the iPad to inform and entertain." - Mel Martin, TUAW.com
*** PLEASE NOTE ***: Regular Mars Globe is a smaller download and is free. This HD version has slightly, not extremely, better resolution and rendering; it is intended for people who have already tried the free version and liked it.
As Mars Globe HD requires advanced OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics, it does not work on older devices like the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, or 1st or 2nd generation iPod Touches. Regular Mars Globe works on those devices.
What's New in Version 2.1.1
- Optimized for iPad 2.
- Sharper labels.
- Better rendering at the poles.
Version 2.1:
- Mars Globe HD now is a universal app supporting iPhone (3GS and later) and iPod Touch (3rd generation and later) as well as iPad. Because Mars Globe HD relies on advanced OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics, it does not support original iPhone, iPhone 3G, or 1st or 2nd generation iPod Touch. Regular Mars Globe still supports those older devices.
- More realistic color.
- Support for iOS 4.

Another Killer
years back, i got a good shot of the three volcanos when it was way close. now i can see Mars without the atmospheric conditions that *really* mess up the viewing nowdays....LUV the work you guys put into Mars and Moon. what's next, Jupiter?
Beautiful globe.
It's not a five star simply for the fact that it's not nearly as feature-rich, and consequently not as useful, as the Moon Globe app. Inexplicably, there's no "view from earth" option and no real time phases or time sliding abilities. Maybe these features will confuse the uneducated, the huge difference in view between opposition and conjunction or something like that, but then these apps are nothing more than a beautiful education tool, so educate!
Seriously, dev, please provide the same fantastic features found in your Moon Globe app!
One thing that this app does have in common with Moon Globe is that there is no discernible difference between the free and pay versions. But again, the dev deserves your moolah for these apps, so pay up!
Very pleased indeed
This app does exactly what i was hoping for: shows me a current view of Mars. I have corroborated the view with another astronomy program and it's right on. This is will become an invaluable aid whilst I observe with my telescope. Never again will I have to use paper charts and guess what features I'm looking at. Bravo!
