Version 2.0 included a new map update feature called FreshMaps. FreshMaps is a premium service that NAVIGON adapted from their successful line of PNDs (personal navigation devices) in Europe, whereby for a fee, users can get the latest maps every three months for a period of at least two years. The introduction of this service into the app was planned prior to Garmin’s acquisition of NAVIGON.
Prior to the launch of FreshMaps, free map updates were provided on an irregular basis. In response to customer feedback, we will continue to deliver occasional free map updates in addition to the optional FreshMaps service, which provides more regular and frequent (quarterly) map updates. Note that FreshMaps also upgrades regional versions, such as MyRegion or USA, to the full North American map.

The 1* reviews are unfair
This is easily the best navigation app. The interface is much nicer than TomTom and the maps are more accurate.
The 1* reviews seem to be based entirely on 2 points- having to download the maps, and not getting quarterly map updates for free. Regarding the first point, I LOVE that I don't have to download 2GB of maps if I don't need them. But now that Navigon has added an option to download all maps, you have no reason to complain.
Regarding the second point, THERE'S NO CHANGE WITH MAP UPDATES! According to Navigon, we will still get map updates once per year, JUST LIKE BEFORE. If you want, you can pay for *quarterly* map updates. If you recall, we didn't get quarterly updates in the past. We got them once per year. Navigon has to pay NAVTEQ license fees every time they publish new maps, so it doesn't seem unreasonable to charge for more frequent updates. And it's not a quarterly fee! It's a one-time fee, just like their other in-app purchases.
Stuck on Map Manager
I launched Navigon 2.0.2, and was shown a map fresh page which I selected to refresh the maps. Now the app is stuck on the Map Manager page. I rebooted Navigon and restarted my 4S, but it's still stuck. I'll try to delete and reinstall when back home at my Mac.
Disappointing to have it lock up while on the road. I looked on the Navigon website, but couldn't find a fix.
SHOULD HAVE LEFT IT ALONE!!!
My navigon was working perfectly even though I had no fresh maps. After download 2.02 the dammed thing doest work now. Why do you mess with a good thing?
