Description

Finally... A Text Editor That Speaks MultiMarkdown!

MultiMarkdown Composer is a text editor that is designed from the ground up around the MultiMarkdown Syntax. It is designed to make writing in MultiMarkdown even easier than it already is, with automatic syntax highlighting, built in previews, easy export to any format that is supported by MultiMarkdown, and more!

By using an editor built around Markdown and MultiMarkdown, you can focus on the actual *writing*, rather than worrying about formatting and styles. Let the computer deal with that when you're ready to export your document to another format.

NOTE: If you are unfamiliar with Markdown or MultiMarkdown, please learn more at http://fletcherpenney.net/multimarkdown/ before purchasing this application. We want to be sure that you will be happy with your purchase!

What's New in Version 1.1.2

* Add "Copy as Rich Text" command to allow you to easily copy and paste formatted output to another app (e.g. TextEdit).

* Enable/Disable spell checking and auto correcting independently in the preferences

* Several improvements to the performance of typewriting mode/scrolling

* Disabled noncontiguous layout by default

* Improved reliability of the Reference HUD at document startup.

* Add a "refresh" button to the preview window.

* Disable sandboxing

* Fix potential crash with some links

* If a BibTeX file is specified in the metadata, extract cite-keys and add to Reference HUD

* Insert additional newline when hitting return on a heading to avoid "eating" blank lines

* Preference to move focus to the Reference HUD search field when it's toggled on to allow instant filtering

* Added optional "type over" feature for '.' characters (similar to typing over the last character in a smart pair)

* Add separate font preference for printing (allows you to use one font/size for on screen editing, and a different font/size when you want to print)

* Fixed bug that could cause Reference HUD and Stats HUD to not update when app first launches (can circumvent for now by toggling the HUDS off then back on)

* You can now double-click to install style sheets (will make it much easier when sandboxing gets turned back on...)

* Better tracking of sizes when collapsing and reexpanding ToC pane and changing size of window at the same time.

* User preference to switch between '_' and '*' for bold/italics.

MMD was free

Fletcher's MultiMarkdown work was free. I am glad he created an app just so I could have a vehicle to give him $10. I think in footnotes and my writing for the web is better because of Fletcher's work. Thanks, dude.

Unified documentation system for scientists and engineers

I just joined the MMD camp lately and I would have to say that the possibility is endless.
I'm using MultiMarkdown Composer with Marked and latex. With this suite, you have a highly flexible, unified documentation system that can be exported to html, rtf, latex (articles and beamer with bibtex support) with one source text. MMD not only simplifies latex usage but it makes the experience so enjoyable. The simplicity of MMD and the sophistication of latex makes MMD such a powerful tool. Not to mention that MMD Composer is a great editor.
To illustrate what I mean by "unified documentation system", let's say I wrote a document in MMD. At work, we post our work progress on the Wiki Trac server where you normally have to put things in Wiki Trac markup language. However, you can reuse your MMD text source by exporting it in html and surround that html code in Wiki Trac with
{{{
#!html
your html code generated by MMD
}}}
No need for rewriting. You can use the MMD text source for pdflatex (for pdf outputs). You can use the MMD text source for beamer for presentation. The best part, MMD is opensource and the file is in plain text which is future proof. No dependencies on MS or whatsoever. This is the way to go. If you are a scientist or engineer that work with latex frequently, give it a try.

Well-featured; Under-documented

After using this app for more time, I have significantly upped my star-rating. It has many excellent features that other Markdown editors do not.

These include a clickable (navigable) table of contents pane, and many export options for your work (RTF, LaTex, OPML). I stand by my main complaint, Composer comes with virtually no documentation, and clicking "Help" sends you to a links that bounce you around the web with little structure or cohesive guidance.

Composer works well with the Marked viewer (both an excellent companion and outstanding value).
