A Must Have SpEd Classrooms
A MUST HAVE for anyone one who has difficulty with transitions!
I have used icons, picture schedules, First/Then schedules, timers and you name whatever else to help my new kinder students with autism with transitions . It has NOT been easy. Crying, screaming, running, rolling on the floor and other behaviors teacher dread and that take time away from instruction were eating up my day.
I made a schedule using your pre-recorded videos for some of the more difficult transitions and only pictures for others. My students transitioned to and from inclusion, work-stations, the bathroom, to and from the cafetaria all while happily watching "My Video Schedule" do it's thing.
The entire class loves it! The narration is Great. The categories and content of the library are amazing. Every photo and video is so clear that even my deaf/visually impaired student can enjoy them. I can't wait to add my own videos and pictures to personalize it.
Home...not so much
I was really excited to get this program to use with my son with autism. He has extreme difficulty with transitions and I thought this would be a great help. I've found two big problems with the program: one, it puts all the events onto my iPad calendar (all of them!) which I do not need; two, I can't enter a task without a time. At school, time slots are important. I get that. At home, in the 'real world' where things happen and schedules are somewhat fluid, mandatory times just serve to make my autistic son crazy! "the schedule says..." is not helpful when some flexibility is needed! It would be great if the tasks could be entered without times and if the order could be rearranged by dragging and dropping on the fly. This app made matters worse for us. :-(
Schedule, Video modelling, and rewards app, all rolled into one!
This is a schedule, video modeling app, and rewards app all rolled into one! I have many apps for these areas, and love being able to meet my students' (and own son's) needs with just one app instead of several! And it works on iPod touch too, which is essential for us right now/ I am quite thrilled to see an app designed by a special educator, who knows the needs of our students. I particularly think the idea of embedding video into the schedule is fabulous!
